Students' Representative Council• PRESIDENT'S REPORTProbably the factor which had themost effect on S.R.C. activities in 1957was the huge influx of new students. The Fifth Form made up more than 40per cent of the Engineering School andthe proportion of newcomers in the ArtsSchool was cons ide ra b ly greater. It would be expected that these factswould have some effect on the co-operativestudent activities of the year, andthis was in fact the case, as will beshown by the report of the Social Committee, which was formed early in thefirst term on the recommendation ofthe S.R.C. Due to the very representativenature of the Social Committee itwas possible to get a wide selection ofideas as to what the students wonted inthe social sphere, and the necessary organisationalwork was able to be distributedin some degree. (Although aconsiderable amount of labour still fellon the shoulders of the few.)The lack of a common recess timeand of on assembly hall contributed toa very large extent to a lack of contactbetween S.R.C. members and the generalstudent body. An attempt was madeto overcome this by advertising allsocial events as Widely as possible. An opti mistic trend not iced at S.R.C.meetings was the regular attendance ofthe younger members, and their readinessto express their views, and to bringto the notice of the S.R.C. any suggestionsof the students whom they represented. In conclusion, my thanks are due tothe Executive for their assistance andco-operation, and to the many membersof staff, in particular Mr. Kepert, with whom I had contact.• SECRETARY'S REPORTIn a growing school such as CaulfieldTech. the functions of the Students' RepresentativeCouncil is most important. The S.R.C. is a means of contact betweenthe students of the school and theadministrators of the school. The students of Caulfield Tech. arevery fortunate in having a staff which isvery interested in the students and theiractivities.Early in the year the Social Committeewas formed through the S.R.C. andI suggest that you read the Social Committeereport to see how this year wasa social success.Lunch hour films were shown duringsecond term but because of the lack ofa common lunch hour for all students, the organization of these film showswas made very difficult.A Music Club was formed but it waspoorly advertised and the membershipseemed rather restricted. This club rana ve ry successful car trial and are to becongratulated for their efforts in thisfield .A Sports Committee was formed toa ssist the sportsmaster in the organizationof various sports functions throughoutthe year.I would like to thank all the membersof the S.R.C., especially Bobby Inglis,my Assistant Secretory, Don Begbie theTreasurer, John Farnan our very ablePresident and Mr. Kepert, for their helpto me throughout the year.A final word to the students for nextvear: If there is someth ing going on atschool, get with it. It's your school.John W. Farnan, President.14- Ia n M. Chesterfield, Hon . Sec .
