The scale and grid interval information provides thenecessary information needed to determine the distance in centimeters, between the grid lines of the gridthat you will construct. As you have already learned, the map scale is a ratio of a distance on a map toits corresponding distance on the ground. (For example: map scale - 1:50,000; one unit of measurementon the map = 50,000 like units of measurement on the ground.) The grid interval tells you what thespacing between the grid lines is equal to on the ground. Normally, the grid interval for maps withscales of 1:100,000 and smaller (i.e., 1:250,000) is 10,000 meters, and for maps with scales larger than1:100,000, the grid interval is 1,000 meters (i.e., 1:50,000).Figure 1-3.
