c. When determining the number of grid lines needed for a grid, these partial grid lines must betaken into consideration. The exact number of grid lines can be computed from DA Form 1941, (seeSoldier's Manual Task: 051-257-1203, Construct Map Grids), but since this is rather complicated, thismethod has been omitted. The easiest way to determine the number of grid lines needed is todetermine the difference between the first full easting and northing grid lines and add four extra gridlines. The following example problem shows how this is done. Determine the number of grid linesneeded when the first full grid lines are as follows:west edge - 283east edge - 303north edge - 4291south edge - 4265Adding four grid lines allows for two extra grid lines on each side of the grid. This will always beenough grid lines to construct a grid. If either of the values is an odd number, add one more grid lineto make it even. This will make all your measurements easier when you construct the grid in Lesson 2.Therefore, the total number of grid lines needed to construct the grid for the DA Form 1941 in figure 1-1 is 24 easting grid lines and 30 northing grid lines.9
