North American publication paper operations.<br />

This change will facilitate the<br />

exchange of best practices between<br />

European and North American operations<br />

and foster mutual collaboration<br />

and the development of a global business<br />

strategy.<br />

Initiatives to enhance profi tability<br />

The measures introduced by Publication<br />

Paper as part of the Profi t 2007 programme<br />

and the Asset Performance<br />

Review are aimed at improving the performance<br />

and profi tability of European<br />

operations.<br />

The use of shared services will be<br />

increased in administrative areas, such as<br />

human resources, accounting, purchasing,<br />

logistics, and IT to generate economies<br />

of scale and additional synergies.<br />

The Kabel and Reisholz mills in Germany<br />

and the Düsseldorf offi ce will integrate<br />

some of their administration. The<br />

Anjala, Kotka, and Summa mills will<br />

switch to a common sales and marketing<br />

department based in Anjalankoski in<br />

Finland.<br />

PM 3 at Langerbrugge Mill will shift<br />

from producing SC to SC-B grade, which<br />

is made from 100 % recovered fi bre rather<br />

than fresh fi bre. As a result of this<br />

change, the thermomechanical pulp<br />

plant will be closed, reducing energy<br />

costs.<br />

with rising input costs, such as energy<br />

and raw materials, we need to bring our<br />
