STUDENT DISCIPLINE<strong>Student</strong>s are expected to maintain <strong>the</strong> highest standards of Christian conduct while attending <strong>Covenant</strong><strong>Seminary</strong>. <strong>Student</strong>s whose conduct becomes problematic may be referred to <strong>Student</strong> Council for adviceor to appropriate faculty and administrative offices for counsel or correction. Dean of <strong>Student</strong>s isresponsible for oversight of students. Matters related to academic discipline should be referred to <strong>the</strong>chief academic officer. Serious breaches of moral behavior or ethical standards may result in <strong>the</strong> studentbeing required to leave <strong>the</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> and/or forfeit a degree o<strong>the</strong>rwise earned.The investigative and adjudicatory process for students whose behavior appears to be in violation of<strong>Seminary</strong> standards is as follows:1. The Dean of <strong>Student</strong>s will discuss <strong>the</strong> problem with <strong>the</strong> student(s) involved. This discussionwill investigate <strong>the</strong> facts to determine a possible course of action to correct <strong>the</strong> problem, offercounsel and determine whe<strong>the</strong>r to solicit advice from additional <strong>Seminary</strong> faculty/staff. TheDean of <strong>Student</strong>s shall <strong>the</strong>n determine <strong>the</strong> appropriate disciplinary actions/steps.2. If <strong>the</strong> matter cannot be resolved by <strong>the</strong> Dean of <strong>Student</strong>s, <strong>the</strong> student or Dean of <strong>Student</strong>s mayrequest that <strong>the</strong> situation be reviewed by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Disciplinary Committee (describedbelow), and a written summary of charges will be prepared. The committee will hear <strong>the</strong> casewithin 14 calendar days (when school is in session) from <strong>the</strong> initial committee review. Thestudent will be informed of <strong>the</strong> committee hearing date within 3 days (when school is insession) of <strong>the</strong> initial committee review. The student is expected to attend <strong>the</strong> committeehearing. Any information known to committee members about <strong>the</strong> student that might berelevant should be discussed with <strong>the</strong> student present, giving opportunity for explanation.O<strong>the</strong>r students may be present if <strong>the</strong> involved student so desires and signs appropriate releaseof information documents. The committee, upon hearing <strong>the</strong> pertinent facts from <strong>the</strong> involvedparties, will recommend appropriate action to <strong>the</strong> Dean of <strong>Student</strong>s, who will take <strong>the</strong> finalaction he deems appropriate, subject to <strong>the</strong> review and approval of <strong>the</strong> President.3. The Dean of <strong>Student</strong>s will inform <strong>the</strong> student in writing of <strong>the</strong> action to be taken. The reportwill include a summary of <strong>the</strong> charges, <strong>the</strong> findings of <strong>the</strong> committee and <strong>the</strong> specific actionstaken by <strong>the</strong> Dean of <strong>Student</strong>s. A copy of <strong>the</strong> report will be forwarded to <strong>the</strong> student'spermanent record, <strong>the</strong> chief academic officer and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Council. <strong>Student</strong> Council shallmaintain a confidential file of <strong>the</strong> committee reports.4. The <strong>Student</strong> Disciplinary Committee will be a standing committee. Its members shall becomposed of <strong>the</strong> Dean of <strong>Student</strong>s (Chairman), <strong>the</strong> chief academic officer, a facultyrepresentative, a representative of <strong>Student</strong> Council and a student at large. <strong>Student</strong>[62]
