2.5.4 Handling of PC CardsPC cards can be used to upgrade software (Section6.5.2), download recorder data (Section 6.7.1, setconfigurations (Section 6.2.1) and FunctionalParameters (Section 6.7.7) and install optional features.While these cards are constructed for a ruggedenvironment, they are not intended to be stored in atechnician’s toolbox.The label on each card clearly states that the card is tobe handled <strong>with</strong> care -- not to be bent, dropped orexposed to impact. Heat, moisture and direct sunlightshould be avoided.PC cards are designed to be used in a wide temperaturerange of --40 to +185°F(--40to+85°C). When a PC cardis connected to an Advance <strong>micro</strong>processor orcomputer at temperatures outside this range, datatransmission between the card and the other devicemay not be performed correctly.Retention of programmed data for extended periods oftime requires a temperature range of --4 to +149°F(--20to +65° C). When PC cards are exposed totemperatures outside of this range for several days datacontained on the card may be damaged.PC cards should never be:• Dropped• Bent• Twisted• Squeezed• Submersed in any liquid• Exposed to electrostatic discharge• Exposed to intense ultraviolet light• Exposed to nearby magnetic or electromagneticfieldsLow X--Ray exposure, i.e. that experienced whilepassing through a security screen, should not harm thecard data. High X--Ray exposure, i.e. that experiencedin a medical or dental environment may damage thecard data. PC cards should not be kept in a shirt pocketcontained a pocket screwdriver <strong>with</strong> a magnetic end.PC cards should be kept in a hard plastic jewel casewhen not in use. Replacement cases P/N 58--50109--00are available from Carrier Transicold’s PerformanceParts Group.2.6 OPTIONS2.6.1 Light BarThe Light Bar is an external set of indicator lights thatcanbeseeninthemirrorfromthecabofatruckoronthefront of a rail car. They are controlled by the<strong>micro</strong>processor.a. Eight -Light Light BarThese lights correspond to the <strong>micro</strong>processor LEDs --HEAT, COOL, DEFROST, START-STOP, and ALARM.The ENGINE-AUTO-START light is only illuminatedwhen the unit is operating in Start-Stop. TheOUT-OF-RANGE light is illuminated when theOut-of-Range Alarm is active.b. Two -Light Light BarThe green LED indicates “STATUS OK”. The amberLED indicates “CHECK UNIT”.
