Micro-financeis also recognised as a key strategy foraddressing issues of poverty alleviation andespecially women’s empowerment.Government of India has launched a newself-employment scheme, Swarnjayanti GramSwarojgar Yojana (SGSY), which is based ongroup approach. Development of groupentrepreneurship, among rural youth may bea good alternative strategy for ruralindustrialisation. A group of 5-10 youth havingtrained in different skills can jointly run microor small enterprises with the involvement ofPanchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and assistancefrom NGOs, financial institutions and theGovernment.Panchayats cannot afford to be isolatedfrom the present socio-economicenvironment of liberal and market economy.Competition is essential to ensure efficiencyand to avoid subsidies. Panchayats are not allpervading and are not sovereign. Panchayatsmay not try to extend their arms to regulatoryand unexplored fields where they lackexperience and expertise.The authors constructed the book basedon the analytical argument dividing intoseventeen chapters persuading onGlobalization. Culminating with several subthemes is a challenging job. Consumers wantquick results, best of goods and services,facilities, luxuries and entertainment availablein every part of the globe. Consumerglobalization is not working to the satisfactionof poor. The gulf between the poor and richhas widened.
