7.2.3.1. ReliabilityA key part of the Digital Cinema system is reliability. In the realm of Digital Cinema, thepresentation should not be interrupted, except in the event of a catastrophic failure of theDigital Cinema system (e.g., loss of power) or a natural disaster. There will be caseswhere equipment will fail (such as happens now with traditional 35mm film equipment). However, the time between failures, and the speed at which it is repaired, is encouragedto be no worse than those for traditional 35mm film equipment. Each individual theater system is required to have a Mean Time Between Failure(MTBF) of at least 10,000 hours.7.2.3.2. Mean Time to RepairA failed or malfunctioning unit/component is required to be capable of being diagnosedand replaced within 2 hours, exclusive of the time needed to order and to deliver thereplacement component(s). Design of a system is required to allow repair of any failedunit/component within two hours.7.2.3.3. Test ShowsThe system is required to allow the content to be played back for validation andverification prior to exhibition.7.2.3.4.
