In Experiment 2 you will investigate how changingthe length of the string affects the swing of the pendulum.Setting up the experimentsMaking the pendulumtaped endpencilsticky tapebenchabout 40 cmclipFigure 1: Making the pendulum1 Wrap a piece of sticky tape around one end of the pencil (cover about 1 cmof the end). This is so the string won’t fall off the end of the pencil whenyou tie it on.2 Use three pieces of sticky tape to stick the other end of the pencil onto thedesk. Make sure the taped end sticks out from the bench about one third thelength of the pencil.3 Put one end of the longer (40 cm) length of string through both metal loopsof one of the clips. Tie a knot as close as possible to the end of the string toattach the clip.4 Tie the other end of the string to the pencil (just behind the sticky tape).26© MCEETYA <strong>2006</strong>
