One-Parent Family Payment is a weekly allowance paid to people who havethe main care and charge of at least one child living with them (aged under 18,or under 23 if in full-time education). They must be bringing up that child(ren)without the support of a partner, and satisfy a means test. They benefit from anotable earnings disregard (the first €146.50 of weekly earnings is completelydisregarded, and only one-half of the remainder of weekly earnings up to€293.00 per week is assessed as means).2. Unemployment Assistance is a weekly allowance paid to people who are over18 and under pension age (66), capable of work, available for work, genuinelyseeking work, and able to prove that they are doing so in a prescribed manner.The weekly rate of payment depends on the amount of weekly means assessed.3. Disability Allowance is a weekly allowance paid to people with a disabilitywho are aged 16 or over and under age 66. The disability must be expected tolast for at least one year and the allowance is subject to a medical suitabilitytest as well as a means test.4. Supplementary Welfare Allowance provides a basic weekly allowance as aright to people who have little or no income. Other than satisfying a meanstest, recipients must also be living in the State, have applied for any other311
