POTENTIAL HIGH SPEED RAIL SYDNEY TO CANBERRAThe Federal Department of Infrastructure and Transport has commissioned feasibility studies byAECOM into various potential routes for a Very High Speed Train (‘VHST’) to link Brisbane,Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. An initial study has been completed with a second phasereport due to be conducted in 2013, however with no public release date at the date of thisSubmission. The preferred route is Route 11a which passes to the East of Lake George and does not impactthe Proposed Works. One of the less preferred alternative alignments does pass along theMajura Valley and through the Proposed Site (see Figure 4.4), but no easements including setbackshave been registered. Further, if any future VHST is built to link Sydney directly toCanberra CBD rather than Canberra Airport, the Majura Valley would be bypassed by the railaltogether.Figure 4.5.
