Mount Majura Solar Farm - the National Capital Authority

1 INTRODUCTIONSolar Choice Pty Ltd (Solar Choice) and Solar Fields Pty Ltd (Solar Fields) have formed aconsortium (the Proponent) to develop, construct and operate the Mount Majura Solar Farmproject (the Proposed Works), an up to 4MW solar photovoltaic (PV) facility located adjacent tothe Mount Majura Winery on Majura Rd, Majura, in the ACT.The Proposed Works are located on unused and cleared land currently leased from the ACTGovernment by the Mount Majura Winery at 314 Majura Rd, Majura ACT 2609. The relevantarea is classified as Designated Land under the National Capital Plan, and accordingly a WorksApproval is required from the National Capital Authority (NCA). This document has beenprepared by the Proponent to form an application for a Works Approval from the NCA.The Mount Majura Solar Farm is participating in the ACT Government’s Medium Scale SolarFeed in Tariff program. The Mount Majura Solar Farm is destined to be one of the first PVfacilities delivered under the program, and more broadly one of the first of its kind in Australia.By virtue of this, the project enjoys strong support within the local jurisdiction and more broadly.The Mount Majura Solar Farm will be a key enabler of the ACT government’s goal to increasethe proportion of the ACT’s electricity mix supplied from locally produced renewable energy.1.1Purpose of SubmissionThis submission (the Submission) sets out the nature and scope of the Proposed Works andseeks a Works Approval to be granted by the NCA to accommodate the Proposed Works.The Submission also serves to assess the potential environmental impacts of the proposal andguide development and refinement of the proposal to minimise any potential environmentaleffects. Specifically, the Submission aims to:Describe the proposal site and locality in the context of the proposalDescribe the proposed infrastructureDescribe the construction, operation and decommissioning process and requirementsDefine the environmental and legislative context of the proposalIdentify and assess the environmental impacts of the proposal with a focus on keyissues, including flora and fauna, visual, heritage and planning.Identify and implement mitigation measures to avoid or minimise potential impacts1Mount Majura Solar Farm – Works Approval Submission
