Tto use this committee as its usc implies thatstudents have no respect for public or privateproperty. This S.R.C. has been a well-balanced one. Witha nucleus of members of past S.R.C.'s and a goodbalance of new members with fresh ideas, importantmotions have been discussed at length with a greatdeal of thought going into each member's opinion.Foremost amongst those who have done a greatdeal of work is John Castleman. the S.R .C. Secretary. He has been a true right hand, alwaysavailable for advice or assistance with difficultdecisions. Bev . Long has done a remarkably goodjob of looking after the minutes, while Tony Simshas been of great assistance in organising theSocial Committee, and other bodies. Barry Cooperhas kept the books with precision throughout theyear and has always been available for advice onmatters affecting S.R .C. finance.Others worthy of mention for jobs well doneinclude Don Brown, editor of Chronic, WayneEifermann, V.F.T.S. representative, John Grace, Ra}'Beebe, Mick Hassett, Bill Power and the everreliableSue Guest, all of whom cannot receive toomuch praise for an excellent year's work onthe S.R.C.Every member is worthy of praise but time andspace are limited. To the rest of the S.R.C., thankyou for a job well done.My thanks also go to Mr. Keller, who is indeedthe S.R.C. President's best friend. His advice andassistance are of inestimable value to the S.R.C.Mr . Lambert and Mr. Danielson also have beenmost helpful and co-operative throughout the year.Mrs . Newcombe has been very helpful with urgenttyping requirements, and I thank her on behalfof the S.R .C.I wish the 15th S.R .C. all the best, and, as forthe President, if he only has as willing a bunchof workers as I had behind me , then he must doa successful and praiseworthy job.Tony Wilson, S.R.C. President.S.R.C. SECRETARY'S REPORTStudents and others often ask what is the functionof the Students' Representative Council. Afterconsidering the various tasks which the Council hasbeen called upon to undertake during its term ofoffice, I should say that the Council's function isto attend to the numerous matters which ariseconcerning the students. The Council must belarge enough to represent the full student bodyand yet small enough to act efficiently. Althoughthere may be only a few large tasks undertaken bythe Council, there are innumerable small oneswhich must be attended to.The large tasks con sist of issuing lockers, fightingfor Improved amenities, organising the Revue, publishing a newspaper, organising social functions, and this year has included establishing anoffice. Most of these tasks are done by sub-corn mittees which are organised, controlled andfinanced by the Council. The Revue was a greatsuccess this year despite the difficulty of finding aproducer. I thank Mr. Richards for his invaluableassistance and regret his modesty in concealinghis producing talents from us for so long. Socialfunctions have been most successful, although morewidespread support from students would be gratifying. It was pleasing to see Mr. Lambert andMr. Danielson at the S.R .C. Annual Ball. "Chronic"has been ,Published with a view to expressingstudent opinion and advertising council functions. It is my hope that in future students will do moreto justify the expense of "Chronic" by contributingmore articles of interest and value to studentsand the community. The committees who haveworked on these activities are to be commendedfor the excellent work they have done. However, most of the Council's time has beentaken up with smaller matters. Among these arekeeping in communication with other bodies suchas the College Council, Staff, Parents' Guild andS.R .C.'s of other tertiary institutions. The variousletters, petitions and donations received throughthe suggestion box have been greatly appreciatedand given consideration. Likewise, the Innumerableverbal suggestions and requests made to the Councilwere dealt with to the best of our ability.Unfortunately, many of the improvements inamenities which are within our financial resourcesare held up by red tape and obscure plans forfuture buildings. The Office Construction Committee has beenable to convert the old cadet store building intoa reasonably comfortable office. This has centralisedCouncil activities, and not only does it enableCouncil members to do their tasks much moreeasily, but students looking for representatives, ormaking bookings for social functions must noticethe greater convenience. The Fourteenth Students' Representative Councilhas had an active year of office, and there will bedividends resulting from their work which willbenefit future students. I should like to thankall the members of this year's Council, and inparticular the President, Mr. Tony Wilson, for hisenthusiastic and capable leadership.12
