The structureof the automobile industry ofthe 1910s and 1920s of the early 20thcentury was built on the need of themarket at the time. High-priced carssold poorly in small towns and ruralareas, where incomes tended tobe low, so small-town dealers oftensold brands in the entry-level range.Manufacturers of pricier brands reliedon distributorships that were locatedin large cities and supplied carsto small-town “dealers,” often localservice stations or garages.Pictured above is one of thosedealers of mid-priced Dodge Brothersmotor cars. This dealer was locatedat 330 Main Street in Scandinavia,Wis. — just four miles south of Iola. Itwas owned by Martin Anderson who,along with his children, are shownsitting in a 1919 Dodge Brothers fourdoorsedan.
