DanFiedlerwasraisedinthesouthsideofChicagountildrugsandgettingintotroubleleadhisfamilytomovehimuptoGresham,WI.Whenhewas16,following his father’s death, he moved in with his brother’s family on the farm theyowned there.He showed up at the Gresham school with an attitude, BeatleBootsandlonghair,wantingtoplayfootballandtheyimmediatelydetouredhimtoShawanoHighSchool. In‘74and’75,DanspenthisjuniorandsenioryearsinShawanowherehetookSmall Gas Engines and Welding class in a relatively new Shawano High SchoolprogramwithteacherFredBeyer.Mr.BeyerwasimpressedwiththecarrampsDan had designed and welded enough to enter them into a contest. Unfortunately, Dan once again got in trouble for something and was not permitted toparticipate.ButDanlikedthehandsonstyleofMr.Beyer’steachingandhisreallifeexamplesandenjoyedtheclassmorethananyother.
