Oral Presentation39Purpose: To study the compliance of spectacle wear among secondary school children inrural areas of Pune district who were dispensed spectacles one year to six months ago underthe sarva siksha abhiyan (education for all scheme) of government of India through the districtblindness control society and Zilla Parishad.Methods: Seven out of twelve talukas were purposely sampled and all the children who weredispensed spectacles were examined by a team of ophthalmic assistant and trained optometrist.The teachers and students were not informed of the visit. The team collected the demographicdetails of the children. The team observed if the child was wearing his spectacle, if not he/she was asked whether the spectacles were in the bag or at home or they did not possessthem anymore. The visual acuity was checked both with (if wearing spectacles) and withouttheir spectacles. Retinoscopy and subjective refraction was performed in those having vision in
