VemugantiL V <strong>Prasad</strong> <strong>Eye</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>, Hyderabad, India.Purpose: To identify the risk factors that predict recurrence, exenteration, metastasis anddeath in sebaceous gland carcinoma (SGC).Methods: Retrospective case series.Results: Of 127 patients with SGC, 16% had tumor recurrence during a mean follow-up of117w. Kaplan-Meier (KM) estimate of recurrence was 34% at 5y. Perivascular or perineuralinvasion on histopathology (p=0.001) predicted recurrence. Orbital exenteration was performedin 22%. KM estimate of exenteration was 27% at 5y. Tumor recurrence (p=0.008) predictedexenteration. Metastasis occurred in 15%, and was estimated to be 17% in 5y. Ill-defined tumorpredicted metastasis (p=0.008). Death occurred in 12% and was estimated to be 25% at 5y.Tumor extension to periorbital areas was predictive of death (p=0.011).Conclusions: SGC has a high probability of recurrence and death.
