Configuring Exchange Server 2003 for message level backups and restoresINSTALLATIONConfiguring Exchange Server 2003 for message levelbackups and restoresBefore performing the tasks required for configuring Exchange Server 2003message level backups and restores, review the following notes:Task List• If you do not intend to perform message level backups and restores (yourintent is to only perform full database backups and restores), you can skip thisprocedure.• If your Exchange Server 2003 server is deployed in a high-availabilityconfiguration using Windows clusters, you must perform this entire procedureon all nodes in the cluster with the exception that only the active node canhave the backup agent service running at any one time. However, all nodes(including inactive nodes) must be configured to start and run the backupservice as AvamarBackupUser.• If the Exchange server is in the child domain of a parent-child domain, theAvamar Backup User profile must be created in the parent domain. In order todo this, the parent domain administrator must log on to the child domain whencreating the avamar backup profile.If you intend to perform message level backups and restores, you must performthe following tasks:• Create “AvamarBackupUser” user account and mailbox that uses staticprofile (32-bit) (page 31)- or -• Create “AvamarBackupUser” user account and mailbox that uses atemporary MAPI profile (32-bit) (page 35)NOTE: EMC Avamar Exchange Client 5.0 introduced a newwizard to configure the AvamarBackupUser account with thecorrect settings needed for message-level backups andrecoveries. However, some users may prefer to manuallycreate the AvamarBackupUser account using the methodsavailable in Avamar Exchange Client 4.1 and earlier. AvamarExchange Client 6.0 still supports this manual method. Configuring Exchange Server 2003 for message level backups and restoresINSTALLATIONIMPORTANT: A unique user name is required for eachExchange Server. If you are backing up more than oneExchange server within an Active Directory forest, you mustuse a different Windows user account for each Exchangeserver. This is because each user defined in Active Directorystores an Exchange mailbox as an attribute. It is thereforenot possible for Avamar to use one user account to backupmore than one Exchange server.
