At Platresyou should walk to the picturesque CaledoniaFalls wh<strong>il</strong>e Omodos is where you can relax withsome wine tasting at the Zenon (25423555) andLinos (25422700) wineries, visit the Monastery<strong>of</strong> the Holy Cross where what is claimed to bethe only piece <strong>of</strong> the Holy Rope (with whichChrist’s hands were tied to the cross) in theworld is preserved, admire the works <strong>of</strong> MaroAristou (25560493, 99340565) in the ByzantineIcon Workshop inside the monastery, and buysome souvenirs in the square.FOOD This is one thing you don’t need to worryabout. At L<strong>of</strong>ou, for instance, there is the excellentL<strong>of</strong>ou Taverna (25470202, 99468151) and Kamares(25470719) where the starters and dessertsare served buffet-style; at Vouni, Takis Taverna(25943631) serves a fantastic value-for-moneymeze (€12); at Platres, for gr<strong>il</strong>led <strong>di</strong>shes the placeto go is Riverdale (25423777, 99464288), wh<strong>il</strong>eif you’d like some Greek music as well as goodfood, Stou Kyr Yianni (25422100) at Omodos hasbouzouki and guitar sounds Thu-Sat.SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO? Thejourney from both Nicosia and Limassol takesapproximately 45 minutes.TOURISM Set <strong>of</strong>f early and stop <strong>of</strong>f at the church <strong>of</strong>St. Nicholas <strong>of</strong> the Ro<strong>of</strong>, which is all that remains<strong>of</strong> an 11th century monastery. From there to theother v<strong>il</strong>lages, the route is truly inspiring. Werecommend that you start at Prodromos. Walk along the RiverSetrachos and take photos <strong>of</strong> the bridges (one <strong>of</strong>which dates back to the Middle Ages), try thesulphurous water from one <strong>of</strong> the springs and visitthe Monastery <strong>of</strong> Saint John Lampa<strong>di</strong>stis and itsreligious treasures. The mural <strong>of</strong> the crucifixionin the chapel <strong>of</strong> Saints Andronikos and Athanasiais also not to be missed. For keen walkers, theKalopanayiotis-Oikos nature tra<strong>il</strong> takes you pastplenty <strong>of</strong> interesting sights.FOOD For an authentic Cypriot meal you shouldtry the Byzantino restaurant (22952444) insideCasale Panayiotis at Kalopanayiotis.
