Status of an individual who is not currently attending high school and who is nei<strong>the</strong>r a<br />

high school graduate nor an alternate high school credential holder.<br />

Status of an individual who is currently pursuing <strong>com</strong>pletion of a high school diploma,<br />

test-based equivalency diploma, occupational program certificate, correspondence<br />

school diploma, home study diploma, adult education diploma, or high school certificate<br />

of attendance.<br />

A diploma or certificate of GED or o<strong>the</strong>r test-based high school equivalency diploma,<br />

excluding a GED certificate awarded at <strong>the</strong> <strong>com</strong>pletion of <strong>the</strong> National Guard Challenge<br />

Program. This includes State-wide testing programs such as <strong>the</strong> CHSPE, whereby<br />

examinees may earn a certificate of <strong>com</strong>petency or proficiency. A State or locally issued<br />

secondary school diploma obtained solely on <strong>the</strong> basis of such equivalency testing is<br />

not to be considered a high school diploma. This is considered an alternate high<br />

school credential.<br />

A certificate or diploma awarded for attending a non-correspondence vocational,<br />

technical, or proprietary school for at least 6 months. An individual so coded must also<br />

have <strong>com</strong>pleted 11 years of regular day school. This is considered an alternate high<br />

school credential.<br />

A secondary school diploma or certificate awarded upon <strong>com</strong>pletion of correspondence<br />

school course work, regardless of whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> diploma was issued by a<br />

correspondence school, a State, or a secondary or post-secondary educational<br />

institution. This is considered an alternate high school credential.<br />

An attendance-based high school certificate or diploma. These are sometimes called<br />

certificates of <strong>com</strong>petency or <strong>com</strong>pletion but are based on course <strong>com</strong>pletion ra<strong>the</strong>r<br />

than a test such as <strong>the</strong> GED or CHSPE. A State or locally issued secondary school<br />

diploma obtained solely on <strong>the</strong> basis of an attendance credential is not considered a<br />

high school diploma. This is considered an alternate high school credential.<br />

A secondary school diploma or certificate, typically awarded by a State, based on<br />

certification by a parent or guardian that an individual <strong>com</strong>pleted his or her secondary<br />

education at home. This is considered an alternate high school credential.<br />
