The prelicensure track is suited for students who are not yet registered nurses andwho are pursuing initial pr<strong>of</strong>essional nursing education. Satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> theprelicensure track entitles the graduate to take the National Council Licensure Exam forRNs (NCLEX-RN) and, with a successful exam score, to become a registered nurseprepared for general practice in hospitals, community agencies, and other health careenvironments.The RN-BSN advanced track is for registered nurses who have graduated from anaccredited associate degree or diploma nursing program, who have successfullycompleted the National Council Licensure Exam for RNs (NCLEX-RN), and who arecurrently licensed to practice nursing in the state <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>.Graduate programs in nursing at <strong>Mercer</strong> <strong>University</strong> include the Master <strong>of</strong> Science in<strong>Nursing</strong> (M.S.N.) program, the Doctor <strong>of</strong> Philosophy in <strong>Nursing</strong> (Ph.D.) program, andthe Doctor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> Practice (D.N.P.) Program. The M.S.N. program <strong>of</strong>fers two areas<strong>of</strong> concentration: nursing education and acute/critical care clinical nurse specialist. ThePh.D. program develops nurse scholars for careers in education, practice, and research.The D.N.P. Program, as a terminal degree, prepares nurses in selected areas <strong>of</strong> clinicalpractice. See page 61 for further information.The <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> utilizes various settings for clinical experiences, includingAtlanta area hospitals and community-based facilities.
