egular final examination because <strong>of</strong> illness or another valid and compelling reason.Aspecial examination to take the place <strong>of</strong> the one missed must be taken prior to the end<strong>of</strong> the next semester <strong>of</strong> enrollment or the ABX grade will be changed to the grade <strong>of</strong> F.If the student does not re-enroll, the ABX will be changed to the grade <strong>of</strong> F unless it isremoved by special examination within 12 months from the date it is assigned.All grades <strong>of</strong> ABX must be removed before the degree will be rewarded.Dean’s ListThe Dean’s List shall include students who complete 12 semester hours or more andachieve a minimum term grade point average <strong>of</strong> 3.55; all work must be letter gradedwith no grade below a C. Full-time or part-time students who earn a minimum termgrade point average <strong>of</strong> 3.66 will also be included if they complete at least 8 hours on aletter graded basis and earn no grade below a Satisfactory or C. Part-time studentsachieve Dean’s List status if they complete 8 to 11 hours that are letter graded with nograde below C and attain a 3.66 grade point average for the term. Students will not beeligible for the Dean’s List by virtue <strong>of</strong> repeated courses.President’s ListAstudent who completes a minimum <strong>of</strong> 12 semester hours with a 4.0 GPA will benamed to the President’s List, provided no grades <strong>of</strong> IC may have been earned forthat term.Graduation with HonorsCandidates for Bachelor’s degrees with a grade-point average <strong>of</strong> 3.50 will receive theirdegrees cum laude; those with an average <strong>of</strong> 3.70, magna cum laude; those with3.85, summa cum laude. To be eligible for honors, a student must have earned aminimum <strong>of</strong> 30 semester hours at <strong>Mercer</strong>. In determining the average <strong>of</strong> students withany transfer credit, the total average and the <strong>Mercer</strong> average separately will be taken, andthe student will be given the standing <strong>of</strong> the lower <strong>of</strong> these two averages. All collegework attempted, including Ds and Fs for which transfer credit has not been awarded,will be included in the calculation <strong>of</strong> the cumulative GPA for graduation with honors.A student who by virtue <strong>of</strong> a grade or grades made in repeated work achieves anoverall GPA that would otherwise qualify him or her for graduation with honors will notbe considered eligible to receive honors.A student who has been convicted <strong>of</strong> an Honor Code violation is not eligible tograduate with honors.<strong>College</strong> Honors<strong>College</strong> Honors may be conferred independently <strong>of</strong> all other distinctions. They aredesigned to recognize students who have distinguished themselves in their major.They will not be announced at graduation, but a notation <strong>of</strong> honors will be entered onthe student’s permanent record and commencement program.Academic StatusUndergraduate Program37
