For the purposes <strong>of</strong> NIH and other PHSagencies, the box for Continuation will not be used andshould not be checked.• Revision is somewhat equivalent to NIH and other PHSagencies Supplement, but would also include other changesas noted in the definition above. In general, changes to the“terms and conditions <strong>of</strong> the existing award” (as noted inexample 2 above) would not require the submission <strong>of</strong>another application through Grants.gov. Applicants shouldcontact the awarding agency for advice on submitting anyrevision/supplement application. It is important to note thatrevisions for <strong>Fellowship</strong> applications are very rarelyallowed.This field also affects how you complete Item 4. FederalIdentifier. If “Type <strong>of</strong> <strong>Application</strong>” is “New”, you can leave theFederal Identifier field blank on the first submission attempt.However, the Federal Identifier field becomes a required fieldwhen submitting a Changed/Corrected application to addresserrors/warnings. When submitting a Changed/Corrected “New”application, enter the Grants.gov tracking number <strong>of</strong> theprevious submission attempt (e.g. GRANT87654321). If you areunable to find the tracking number, enter “N/A”.Note for applications using the Adobe B (not B-1) package only:If “Type <strong>of</strong> <strong>Application</strong>” is “Renewal” or “Resubmission,” enterthe IC and serial number <strong>of</strong> the previously assignedapplication/award number (e.g. CA987654).
