The report, titled ThePhysical Science Basis (2007), is a working group contribution to the IPCC Fourth AssessmentReport describing progress in understanding the human and natural drivers of climate change, observed climate change, climate processes and attribution, and estimates of projected futureclimate change.U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP)Sponsored by 13 departments and agencies, this program coordinates federal research onchanges in the global environmental and its impacts to society. The program advances science inthe areas of climate change and global change research to observe and understand short- andlong-term changes in climate, the ozone layer, and land cover. The goal is to estimate futurechanges and vulnerabilities and risks associated with those changes, as well as to providescientific information for policy making. This program has documented numerous nationalassessments commissioned by the program, and have played prominent roles in internationalassessment such as those for the IPCC.National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)NOAA’s climate portal provides climate information and services related to understandingclimate. It provides educational materials, up-to-date news and research, mapping resources, andlinks to underlying data and analyses related to the climate.National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR)NCAR is a federally funded research and development center devoted to service, research, andeducation in the atmospheric and related sciences. NCAR’s mission is to understand the behaviorof the atmosphere and related physical, biological, and social systems; to support, enhance, andextend the capabilities of the university community and the broader scientific community —nationally and internationally; and to foster transfer of knowledge and technology for thebetterment of life on Earth.
