Professor Edgerton alsogave a series of lectures at the University of California on theTower of Asoka and Buddhist Sanskrit. Japanese studies aremost advanced at the University of Michigan. Professor FrankHuntley of the English Department received actual training inZen. Professor Morris of the University of Chicago valuesBuddhism for its tolerant spirit which shows a way of life for thefuture. Professor Babbit, formerly of Harvard, translated theDharmapada S‰tra into English, and in an essay entitledÒBuddha and the OrientÓ included at the end of his translation,he urges all Americans to pay attention to Buddhism.
