Appendix II: Correspondence 153OFFICIAL DOCUMENT FOR the reception of one part ofthe Venerable Ashes of Keid‡ Chisan Daish‡ (GreatPriest Keid‡ Chisan) who passed away (crossed over) infunction on November 1st. 1967, and was by ImperialDecree (given the title of) En‡ Shid‡ Zenji (i.e. Abbot andZen Master with complete fulfillment of attaining theWay) of Dai Hon Zan S‡ji-ji, and Dokuju (Chief Priest) inthe 18th. generation (these are) offered (provided) in areceptacle on November 14th. 1984, by the hands ofOkabe Tokuyu R‡shi of D‡ry‡-ji Temple of T‡ky‡, andentrusted to R‡shi Jiyu-Kennett of the United States ofAmerica as acknowledgement of being a Great WisdomR‡shi in the 515th generation of the Buddhist era.(T‡ky‡) AsakusaÑHashiba (place)Fukujuin (temple)Chikai K‡ry‰ Ñ(name of R‡shi)(seal: Chikai K‡ry‰ Fukujuin)Needless to say, both I and the community of <strong>Shasta</strong><strong>Abbey</strong> are overjoyed to receive this wonderful gift. We havetemporarily enshrined the ashes and hope to hold a publicceremony for their viewing, reverencing and enshrinementsome time early next year.
