A range of additional technical assistance has been provided including the following:• Supporting development of a regulatory mechanism for BRR/Departmentof Public Works for quality of design <strong>and</strong> construction of new buildings toresist future natural hazards.• Assisting in planning a Centre of Excellence at Syiah Kuala University,<strong>Aceh</strong>. This includes development of a plan for a video exhibiting goodbuilding practice through demonstration of the design of the few buildingsthat withstood the tsunami <strong>and</strong> earthquakes.• Support to training 28 Syiah Kuala University students of architecture ingood building design <strong>and</strong> practice in the wake of the tsunami <strong>and</strong> earthquakes,<strong>and</strong> their survey of buildings in 40 villages in <strong>Aceh</strong>, by UN Habitat.• Technical assistance on building plans with regard to earthquake resistancefor a school <strong>and</strong> a polyclinic for BRR Nias, as well as assessed <strong>and</strong> maderecommendations on reconstruction activities in several centres of Nias,rebuilding after the tsunami <strong>and</strong> earthquakes, including UN Habitat.• Supported coordination of UN organizations <strong>and</strong> NGOs on the developmentof a general system of Community Based Disaster Risk Managementfor hazard prone areas.34
