3. Set the parameters for the activated EQ module.It is probably easiest to set up a playback cycle <strong>and</strong> experiment with the settings untilyou get the desired sound. The three basic EQ parameters are:ParameterGainFrequencyQDescriptionGoverns the amount <strong>of</strong> boost or attenuation around the set frequency.The value range is ± 24 dB.The center frequency for the equalization. Around this frequency, thesound will be boosted or attenuated according to the Gain setting.Determines the width <strong>of</strong> the frequency b<strong>and</strong> around the center frequencyto be affected. The narrower the frequency b<strong>and</strong>, the more drastic theeffect <strong>of</strong> the boost or attenuation.❐Please note that high Gain values may give rise to distortion. Check thechannel level meters <strong>and</strong> compensate with the channel volume faders.4. Close the EQ window by clicking on its close box.In the <strong>VST</strong> Channel Mixer window, the EQ button indicator for the audio channel willnow be lit, which means EQ is applied to that channel.Applying EffectsThere are two basic types <strong>of</strong> effects in <strong>Cubasis</strong> <strong>VST</strong>; insert effects(applied separately to each channel, by using the channel inserts inthe <strong>VST</strong> Channel Mixer) <strong>and</strong> send effects (applied separately to eachchannel by using the effect sends in the <strong>VST</strong> Channel Mixer).Typical uses for insert effects would be distortion, filters, auto pannersor any effect that you want to send a whole channel through. Typicalsend effects would be reverb, delay, chorus or anything that you wantto apply in different amounts to the different audio channels (see alsothe note about stereo effects on page 205).• The following pages describe the general procedures for applying <strong>and</strong>making settings for effects.
