8 CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION• Cognitive Tests Signal Database - design and implementation of a data acquisitionsetup for HCI and physiological signals; creation of remote monitoring tools for HCImonitoring; creation of a set of cognitive tests used as the context for signal acquisition.• Uncertainty based fusion - a fusion technique developed to use the EDA signal in amultibiometrics setting.• Guessing entropy - a measured applied to evaluate the security of a biometric system.The achieved results open a new area for biometric systems implementation with new signalmodalities and new approaches that are proposed in envisioned application scenarios.1.4 Thesis StructureThe thesis is divided into seven chapters and two annexes, as schematized in figure 1.5Figure 1.5: Thesis structure.
1.4. THESIS STRUCTURE 9The present chapter introduced the problem providing some insight on the motivationto this problem, and described the contributions of the thesis. The next chapter (chapter2) provides a review of the state of the art on behavioral biometrics, with an overview ofthe broader topic of biometrics. These two chapters form the basis for the development ofthe thesis.Chapter 3 focuses on the signal sources used in the thesis, provides details on the signalacquisition process. The signals used for biometric identification are detailed, describingtheir structure and applications. The signal processing and feature extraction algorithms,specific to each of the signals are presented in chapter 4. Chapter 5 presents the classificationtechniques we developed for the proposed behavioral biometrics purposes. These threechapters present the materials and methods of the study.In chapter 6 the results and the performance of the developed systems are described.All data used in the thesis was integrally collected by our research group. The last chapterof the thesis (chapter 7) presents the conclusions, with a critical discussion of the addressedproblems and its extended implications.The thesis has two additional annexes: the first (annex A) provides an overview of thetools used for the conducted research; annex B describes the list of cognitive tests used inthe signal acquisition task.
