Chapter 12The train from Huntington left a littleearlier, but I always got a seat and the train wasusually waiting. I didn't have to stand on afreezing platform. There was, however, oneproblem. Matthew and Shannon had grown veryattached to their PAL track team. Huntington, amuch larger township, didn’t have a track team.When I suggested to Lyn that we form our owntrack team, she thought I was nuts. I sat down atthe typewriter and wrote a press release about achildren's track team being organized inHuntington and sent it to the Long Islandnewspaper, Newsday. <strong>We</strong> needed to set up ameeting place, and once again I turned to thechurch. The local Presbyterian church offered itsfacilities for an organizational meeting. Newsdayprinted the press release and about eighty peopleshowed up at the church for the meeting,including p<strong>are</strong>nts and members of other racingassociations that wanted to help. <strong>We</strong> formed ateam and called it "The Huntington Flash." BoxOne donated T-shirts and I wanted the name tohave some relationship to photography. <strong>We</strong> hadsixteen members ranging from six to twelve yearsold. Lyn became the team manager; sheorganized and <strong>com</strong>municated. <strong>We</strong> participated inevents held all over Long Island. <strong>We</strong> did this tomake our kids happy, but made a lot of other247
