At which time, Jesus follows with a shocking statement,“As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in thewhich there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shallnot be thrown down” (Verse 6).Pay careful attention to what Luke records. Since two questionswere asked by The Disciples, each question relates to two differentevents. The first question is when will these things be, andthe second question, what will be the sign when these things shallcome to pass? The destruction and desolation of “the temple”will be so great that not one stone will be left upon another.The Disciples were wondering when the destruction to the templewould occur. Josephus, The Jewish historian, has carefullyrecorded the historical desolations of 70 A.D., in his War of TheJews.The general and crown prince, firstborn son of Vespasian, was assignedto bring Jerusalem into obedience under Rome. The siegebegan by Vespasian in upper Galilee when he took one city afteranother. With the death of Nero, three more kings stood up claimingthe crown. The Legions in The East went over to Vespasianand the three kings fell before him, all in a one-year period. Vespasianreturned to Rome to stabilize the government while Tituswith The Eastern Legions came from Egypt to besiege the Jerusalemstronghold. From the spring of 67 A.D. when Vespasian beganto besiege Judah to the fall of 70 A.D. (a three and one-half-yearperiod), sacrifices had ceased as the temple lay in smolderingruins.Luke describes this fulfillment after The Disciples asked Jesusthese questions. In order to retrieve the gold that had melted fromthe burning temple (70 A.D.), the very foundational stones weretoppled. Amazingly, what Jesus had predicted nearly 40 years be-
