Oldham and Rochdale HMREvaluation Techniques “<strong>How</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Evaluate</strong>”Philosophy for Communities1.13 Con<strong>to</strong>ur Housing Association was commissioned <strong>to</strong> carry out philosophysessions with residents of Alt in Oldham and Kirkholt in Rochdale. Theoverall aim of the sessions was <strong>to</strong> contribute <strong>to</strong>wards improving communitycohesion on the two estates. This project had completed upon commissionof the overall Cohesion Counts evaluation. Previous evaluation activityincluded questionnaires, Blog activity and consultations.Spiral Dance1.14 The project aimed <strong>to</strong> raise awareness of issues around community cohesionand hate crime, break down barriers between different social groups andhelp <strong>to</strong> change negative stereotypes and preconceptions. The aim was <strong>to</strong>achieve these objectives through creative activity working with participantsfrom the Lower Falinge Estate in Rochdale. The project included a targetgroup with diverse cultural backgrounds, different age ranges and abilities.1.15 Evaluation activity included pre and post questionnaires <strong>to</strong> explore changesover time with participants, along with attendance at the final trainingsession and face-<strong>to</strong>-face consultations with them about their experiencesand real-life examples.1.16 Spiraldance have considerable experience of using creative evaluationtechniques. <strong>York</strong> <strong>Consulting</strong> worked closely with the project <strong>to</strong> complementexisting techniques employed by the project, offering suggestions forexample on the use of Video Diary Rooms and scenario testing.Additional Projects included within the Evaluation6
