This satellite photo, provided by the Air Force Weather Agency at Offutt AFB, NE, shows the status of Hurricane Wilma as of 8:25 a.m. EST, on 24 October 2005. The image captures the Category 2 storm off the coast of Florida, with the center of the storm's eye about 75 miles northeast from Miami. This photograph is actually a composite of two satellite images taken by a Defense Meteorological Satellite Program satellite. 230 24 Oct 05 Intermittent circuit outages affected communication with Homestead ARB, FL, after the landfall of Hurricane Wilma. Electrical power and phone lines were inoperative throughout most of the base except for a few critical buildings with back-up generator power. The airfield was able to operate under visual flight rules (VFR) later that day. Homestead leadership requested personnel and generators to support base functions – HQ AFRC Civil Engineers worked the request 231 25 Oct 05 The 349 th Security Force Squadron (Travis AFB, CA) had 3 members deployed for 60 days in support of Hurricane Katrina relief. Refueling specialists from the 482 nd Fighter Wing, Homestead Air Reserve Base, FL, have refueled more than 200 tractor trailers engaged in Federal Emergency Management Agency Hurricane Wilma relief. Their operation began October 20, 2005. (USAF photo by Lisa M. Macias) 233 25 Oct 05 The 433 rd AW flew 10 C-5 missions for a total of 62.1 hours flown. They moved 532 passengers and 614.5 tons of cargo in support of Hurricane Katrina relief. The wing also flew 6 C-5 missions for 33.7 hours in support of Hurricane Rita relief. They transported 596 passengers and 14.5 tons of cargo. 234 25 Oct 05 The 446 th AW (McChord AFB, WA) had flown 5 missions for 137.2 hours since the beginning of relief efforts. It had transported 635 passengers and 567.2 tons of cargo since the beginning of relief efforts. 235 25 Oct 05 Communications system circuits were stable and operational at Homestead ARB, FL, but the command section had relocated due to roof damage at the south end of building 360. The base had no commercial power and all buildings that were operational were on generator power. 236 27 Oct 05 The 926 th FW (New Orleans JRB, LA) reported that it still could not locate four personnel, two Title V civilians and two traditional reservists.
