LEE MOYERTiamat, but Avandra’s draconic followers are nowhereas despised as the chromatics that follow Bahamut’steachings.BahamutCalled the Platinum Dragon, Bahamut is the deity ofjustice, protection, nobility, and honor. Lawful goodpaladins often revere him, and metallic dragonsworship him as the first of their kind. Of all thedeities, Bahamut receives the least reverencefrom chromatics. Sometimes a chromaticmight rebel against its innernature, following Bahamut’steachings as a new paradigmthrough which to live out thecenturies. Bahamut offers guidanceto dragons that follow hispath, because the church ofTiamat sends powerful clerics todestroy any chromatic dragon itlearns has switched its devotionto the Platinum Dragon.BaneBane is the deity of war and conquest. He commands his followersto overpower the weak, subjugate thesurvivors, and spread war everywhere.Though militaristic nations of humansand goblins serve him, many chromaticsalso warm to Bane’s message of perpetualconquest. With never-ending war comes theopportunity for never-ending pillage: Chromaticswelcome the opportunity to profiteer, and they dramaticallyenhance the value of their hoards by takingadvantage of and indeed even fomenting war. Theybreak peace treaties and otherwise make certainthat neighboring kingdoms live in armed fear of oneanother.CorellonThe deity of spring, beauty, and the arts, Corellonis the patron of arcane magicians and the fey. Somebelieve he seeded the world with arcane magic, which is why chromatic dragons might come torevere this deity more often associated with eladrinand elves. Wily red dragons especially find the accumulationof arcane knowledge a most importantpursuit. Thus, they might keep shrines to Corellonin their lairs. Indeed, one of Corellon’s commands tohis followers is to seek out lost magic items, forgottenrituals, and ancient works of art. What dragon doesnot already do that?ErathisErathis is the deity of civilization, so her valuesoppose those of most chromatic dragons. As a founderof cities and writer of laws, Erathis creates order andorganization among the helpless multitudes, whereaschromatics value the strength of the individual andthe right of individuals (in other words, themselves)to do as they please. Erathis’s role as the muse of greatinventors has called to a few blues, browns, and otherindividual dragons that value new ideas, but on thewhole Erathis has few chromatic worshipers.GruumshGruumsh is the chaotic evil deity ofdestruction, lord of maraudingbarbarian hordes. He exhorts hisfollowers to slaughter and pillage,a dictate that chromaticdragons find easy to accommodate. On more than oneoccasion, a chromatic dragonthat has pledged itself to Gruumshhas risen to commandan army of despoilers.IounIoun is the deity of knowledge, skill, and prophecy. Sages, tacticians, and seers revere her, as doall who live by their knowledge andmental power. Some older chromaticdragons become more concerned withtheir wealth of knowledge than the wealthof their hoards. These dragons find Ioun anatural match and set up shrines to the deity intheir lairs.KordKord is the storm deity and the lord of battle. Herevels in strength, battlefield prowess, and thunder. For all these qualities, he draws a few chromaticdragons from every generation, especially blue ones.An adult blue dragon called Echo leads the Temple ofStorms in the Windrise Peaks, hallowed to Kord. Thisdevout blue flies every night amid the thunderingclouds. Each day, Echo descends to the valleys to fightin the constant skirmishes between quarrelsome orctribes.LolthLolth is the chaotic evil deity of shadows, lies, andspiders. Though she is predominantly known for herpatronage of the drow, chromatic dragons appreciateher deceptive qualities. Black and purple dragonsmight become adherents—and in their study oftreachery learn something of spiders, too. From timeto time, drow and chromatics pledged to Lolth worktogether. Lolth’s priestesses attempt to ensure that inany such arrangement, the dragon does not gain theupper hand. They do not always succeed.CHAPTER 1 | Dragon LoreRELIGION27
