Sewage Pumps for Municipal and Industrial ApplicationsPlanning GuideWilo submersible mixers and re-circulation pumps are approved foruse in potentially explosive areas. For this, the units are certifiedaccording to two different standards: The European ATEX standard aswell as the American FM standard.Atex standardThe units are constructed according to the “EU directive 94/ 09/EG”(ATEX 95) and the European standards DIN EN 60079-0, EN 60079-1.They may be operated in potentially explosive atmospheres whichrequire electrical devices of device group II, category 2.Thus, use in zone 1 and zone 2 is possible. These units may not beused in zone 0.Wilo submersible mixers and re-circulation pumps are characterisedas follows: II 2 G Ex d IIB T4-II = Device group IIMeaning: Meant for potentially explosive locations except for mines-2 = Category- G = Substance groupMeaning: Gases-Ex = Ex-protected device in acc. with European standard-d = Ignition protection class, motor housingMeaning: Pressure-proof enclosure- IIB = Explosion groupMeaning: For use together with gases of subdivision B, all gasesexcept for H2, C2H2, CS2- T4 = Temperature classMeaning: Max. surface temperature of the device is 135°CFM standardThe units are certified and approved by the recognised testing andapproval authority “FM Approvals” in accordance with the standardsFM 3600, 3615, 3615.80 and ANSI/UL-1004. They may be operatedin potentially explosive areas which require electrical devices with theprotection class “explosion-proof, class 1, division 1”. Thus, operationin areas with the required protection class “explosion-proof,class 1, division 2” according to the FM standard is also possible.Wilo submersible mixers and re-circulation pumps are characterisedas follows:Class 1; Division 1; Groups C, DClass 2; Division 1; Groups E, F, GClass 3T3C- Class 1; Division 1; Groups C, DMeaning: Gases, vapours, mists; explosive atmosphere present constantlyor occasionally during normal conditions; gas groups:Ethylene (C), propane (D)- Class 2; Division 1; Groups E, F, GMeaning: Dusts; Explosive atmosphere present constantly or occasionallyduring normal conditions; dust groups: Metal (E), carbon (F),grain (G)- Class 3Meaning: Fibres and lint- T3C = Temperature classMeaning: Max. surface temperature of the machine 160°CTemperature monitoringStandard explosion-certified motors are equipped with a temperaturemonitor. This includes:- Motors of size T 12 and T 13Winding: Temperature limiter 140°C- Motors of size T 17 and T 20Temperature controller 130°C, temperature limiter 140°CThe temperature monitor is to be connected so that automatic reactivationcan occur when the “temperature controller” is triggered. When the “temperature limiter” is triggered, the reactivation shouldonly be possible when the “release button” has been pressed byhand.Frequency converter operationFor operation with a frequency converter, the motors must beequipped with a PTC thermistor temperature sensor. Specify theintended use when making your order so that we can equip themotors accordingly.Sealing chamber controlThe units can be equipped with external sealing chamber control. This can also be installed later. If the unit is equipped with an externalsealing chamber control, this may only be connected to an intrinsicallysafe electric circuit.Definition of the Ex zonesThe Ex zones are defined in the respective standards. The marking ofzones in the operating area of the units must be done by the operator. When ordering, indicate which Ex standard you are using as abasis and in which zone you want to operate the unit.FMAPPROVED150 Subject to change without prior notice 09/2007 WILO AG
