In 1968 my ATTENTION was caught byman’s acting, but not in its emotionalaspects, as it had been with theperspective of “action painting”.Attracted by all the traces leftby an instrument carrying out anaction, a pen on a sheet of paper, awheel on the ground, a ski on snow,a mower on grass, I began a seriesof works called ITINERARIES. Theywitness human actions througha process of de-personalisation,which eliminates the historicalexistentialelement, in order TOhighlight action in its objectiveFEATURES. I traced some itinerarieswith a simple gesture, using arubber roller. This device, usedTO decorate, had a small basingCONTAININg the colour spread by theroller TO paint a vertical surface. Amodular motive was already inlaid inthe roller; I was left the gesture ofexecution. The question of style wasdelegated TO the instru-ment. ATTRATTO datutte le tracce lasciate da unostrumento che compie un percorso,una penna sulla carta, una ruotasulla terra, uno sci sulla neve,una fALCIATRICE sull’erba, iniziaiuna serie di lavori denominatiITINERARI. Essi testimoniano l’attivitàumana ATTRAVERSO un processo dispersonalizzazione che elimina lacomponente storico-esistenzialeper mettere in evidenza l’agire nellasua oggettività. Tracciavo degliitinerari con un semplice gesto,usando come strumento un rullodi gomma. Tale strumento usato perdecorazioni era provvisto di unaVASChetta per contenere il coloreche il rullo TRASCINAVA per tingereuna superficie verticale. Un disegnomodulare era già inciso sul rullo,a me non rimaneva che il gestodell’esecuzione. Delegavo alloSTRUMENTO il compito dello stile.Un punto d’arrivo era costituito daun “box” o da una porta.156157
