<strong>KBA</strong> and TPH enter strategic sales alliance<br />

In September last year <strong>KBA</strong> and<br />

The Printers House (TPH) in<br />

New Delhi, India, entered a strategic<br />

alliance to expand their businesses<br />

worldwide. TPH now<br />

promotes <strong>KBA</strong>’s high-performance<br />

newspaper and commercial web<br />

presses on the Indian sub continent<br />

and in certain threshold countries,<br />

while <strong>KBA</strong>’s global sales and service<br />

network promotes TPH’s 2/1 Orient<br />

web presses in the rest of the<br />

world. The alliance – the biggest<br />

of its kind in the newspaper industry<br />

– allows both partners to cater<br />

to any requirement ranging from<br />

16,000iph to 95,000iph web offset<br />

presses.<br />

TPH is an industry leader in<br />

web offset presses with thousands<br />

of printing units installed worldwide.<br />

The Orient range includes<br />

offset presses with speeds of<br />

16,000iph, 30,000iph, <strong>36</strong>,000iph<br />

and 50,000iph. The printing elements<br />

include mono units with integral<br />

reelstands, stacking units,<br />

ARC with stack, three-colour satellites,<br />

four-high towers, a tucker<br />

folder and jaw type folder including<br />

has recorded a 40% increase<br />

in productivity for the<br />

Belfast-based major B1 (41in) packaging<br />

print house. The eight-colour<br />

UV coater version was chosen in addition<br />

to the two existing Heidelberg<br />

presses as part of an ongoing<br />

strategy to increase capacity and<br />

competitiveness in the high-pressure<br />

packaging market.<br />

CEO Dominic Walsh says: “Our<br />

key focus was to improve our performance<br />

and the Rapida has certainly<br />

achieved that. In the current<br />

economic climate of uncertainty<br />

with ever decreasing run lengths<br />

and shortening lead times we can<br />

now deliver superior quality across<br />

Three different jobs of 4,500<br />

sheets, 6,000 sheets and 90,700<br />

sheets were run on the press and it<br />

achieved almost 40% increased productivity<br />

on UV packaging material<br />

compared to the existing press.<br />

The 18,000sph Rapida, now<br />

running in a 24-hour shift pattern,<br />

was installed on a 450mm (17.7in)<br />

plinth to maximise pile heights. Au-<br />

1:2:2 folder. Outside India, TPH<br />

presses can be found in China, Russia<br />

and the Middle East.<br />

in the world, <strong>KBA</strong> is considered<br />

an engine of innovation in<br />

the newspaper and semi-commercial<br />

sectors. Focussing on kit for<br />

medium to high performance levels,<br />

<strong>KBA</strong> offers newspaper printers<br />

a complete range of presses in all<br />

the current configurations. TPH’s<br />

Orient presses expand this portfolio<br />

into the budget-priced categories.<br />

A new Rapida 106 at Belfast-based packaging<br />

printer MSO Cleland has delivered substantial<br />

gains in terms of productivity, quality and<br />

flexibility<br />

changeovers at both the feeder and<br />

delivery deliver further efficiencies.<br />

Among the other headline features<br />

are the automated coating unit allowing<br />

perfect registration on the<br />

first sheet. There is also the quality<br />

control aid DensiTronic Professional<br />

that scans the sheets at a resolution<br />

of 330dpi and compares them with<br />

the original PDF to identify even<br />

minimal deviations and automatically<br />

record them in the quality log;<br />

and <strong>KBA</strong> WashTronic, which strips<br />

the ink on the last eight to ten<br />

sheets reducing the amount of ink<br />

debris on the blankets at wash-up<br />

and helping to speed up makereadies.
