INTRODUCTION
GL Assessment – an introduction
For over 30 years, GL Assessment has provided
rigorous and high-quality assessments and
services for children's education, mental health
and wellbeing.
Originally founded by the National Foundation for Educational Research
(NFER), with whom we continue to work with today, GL Assessment
leads literacy, numeracy and ability testing in UK schools and our
resources are used in over 100 countries worldwide in British, bilingual
and international schools. Over 3 million pupils in UK primary and
secondary schools take our tests every year and we have delivered over
4 million online tests to date. GL Assessment is a division of the
GL Education Group.
We have published the world’s first test for Dyscalculia and the first
standardised test of emotional literacy in the UK. We have also worked
with numerous leading organisations to create assessments that
incorporate the very latest thinking and research within the education
sector. We are the official assessment provider of the National
Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) and some of our partners include
King’s College London, the University of York, the University of Michigan
and the Australian Council for Educational Research.
Our extensive portfolio of educational assessments includes the
Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT) - the UK's most widely used test of
reasoning abilities, Progress in English (PiE) - the standardised English
assessment of choice in many schools and more recently, the Pupil
Attitudes to Self and School (PASS) survey - an all-age attitudinal survey
that provides a robust measurement of a pupil’s attitudes towards
themselves as learners and their attitudes towards school.
