bus lane southbound (7am-10am, 4pm-7pm) which converts to<br />

parking bays/cycle lane out of operational bus lane hours.<br />

As with most commercial/retail centres issues for cyclists<br />

using this section of the route are associated with loading and<br />

unloading, buses and parked vehicles. This coupled with traffic<br />

congestion make conditions for cyclists difficult and potentially<br />

dangerous.<br />

Proposals<br />

• Semi-segregated cycle lanes will be installed on links between<br />

junctions, shortened bus lanes and floating parking bays<br />

• Floating bus stop between Adelaide Road and Dunedin Road<br />

with speed ramp in cycle track bypass<br />

• A consolidation of parking and loading onto side streets where<br />

feasible<br />

• An enhanced high street through public realm improvements<br />

and reduced motor traffic<br />

Junction 1: High Road Leyton/Grange Park Road /<br />

Church Road gyratory<br />

Characteristics and Existing Situation<br />

A112 High Road Leyton section (one-way southbound) has<br />

mostly retail frontage requiring parking/ loading. Bus lane<br />

effectively operational during parking restrictions: 7.00am to<br />

10.00am and 4.00pm to 7.00pm; used for parking most of the<br />

day. The Grange Park Road section (one-way northbound) has<br />

mostly residential frontage with parking restrictions 8.00am –<br />

6.30pm.<br />

Cycle lanes are in situ on both sides of the road providing<br />

cyclists with a route either towards Markhouse Road or towards<br />

Leyton Green Road. The Church Road section<br />

Proposals<br />

• Maintain one-way working of gyratory but reduce general<br />

traffic lanes to one lane on all arms.<br />

• Install semi-segregated lanes on Grange Park Road, with the<br />

eastern cycle lane converted to a southbound cycle contraflow<br />

lane. This will complement the Quietway proposal for the<br />

northern section of Grove Green Road.<br />

• Install semi-segregated near-side lane (east-bound) on Church<br />

Road.<br />

• Replace existing bus lane on High Road Leyton section<br />

(southbound) with semi-segregated inside lane, retaining<br />

parking bay adjacent outside lane but widening footway.<br />

• Existing bus stop on High Road Leyton section (southbound):<br />

Designs will be drawn up for an island/ floating design with<br />

speed ramp in cycle track as highway wider at this point.<br />

• Link cycle lanes at two northern junctions on Church Road.<br />

• Each of the three junctions will have either tight geometry<br />

priority junctions giving priority to cyclists, or a tight<br />

‘Continental’ geometry mini-roundabout with over-runs; all<br />

options to have raised junctions/ speed tables.<br />

• Connectivity with adjoining streets will be implemented where<br />

access is currently impeded, e.g. Grange Park Road.<br />

• Mitigation of the barrier of the one-way system<br />

• Re-instating connectivity to adjoining streets for cyclists
