ITQB-IGC PLANT INTERACTION MEETINGS

The main purpose of these monthly meetings is to enhance the interaction
between the plant groups of the ITQB, IBET, and IGC, to exchange ideas with
regard to practical/conceptual problems in the current projects and in the longterm
to promote collaborations amongst these institutions.

The primary goal of the annual PhD retreat is to create an open, inspiring
and comfortable atmosphere for all PhD students of the IGC to discuss their

INTRODUCTION TO FLOW CYTOMETRY

The aim of these courses is to introduce researchers to the basic concepts of
flow cytometry and provide hands-on experience in the most important applications,
namely, immunophenotyping and cell cycle analysis.
IGC PRACTICAL COURSE ON ANIMAL HANDLING AND EXPERIMENTATION
- GOOD PRACTICES WITH RODENTS, FISH AND FROGS

The aim of this course was to train researchers that carry out experiments
with animals in basic procedures, following Federation of European Laboratory
Animal Science Associations (FELASA) guidelines. Training in laboratory animal
sciences is mandatory by Portuguese and European Law, in order for researchers
to be considered capable to work with animals. This 20 hours course was
structured to cover all vertebrate models in use at the IGC, namely mouse, rat,
zebrafish and frog.
DIA DA BIODIVERSIDADE / JOURNÉE DE LA BIODIVERSITÉ / BIODIVERSITY DAY

With the aim of reflecting on real changes that happened during the 2010 International
Year of Biodiversity, and on future prospects and priorities, this oneday
symposium (held at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation) provided a forum
for citizens and scientists to discuss several relevant issues in biodiversity and
species conservation, namely: the rapid decline in species number, threats to
the environment and to natural resources. Researchers working in Portugal and
in France were invited to take part.
