• Bioinformatics in high schools: We have developed an inquiry-based learning
tool based on bioinformatics for high schools now extended to other
levels, and a teacher training-program. We are maintaining this system,
adding functionality, and recruiting new schools and teachers to this experiment
of using bioinformatics in the classroom. Fourteen schools of
11 cities, in four Portuguese districts are following the project: S. Miguel
Torga, Queluz; E. S. Quinta do Marquês, Oeiras; EB3 Secundária Vila Cova
da Lixa; E. S. José Afonso, Loures; E. S. Engº A. C. Duarte, Marinha Grande;
E. S. Stuart Carvalhais, Queluz; E. S. de Mem Martins, Mem Martins, E. S.
Luís de Camões, Lisboa, E. S. Gama Barros, Cacém, E. S. Miguel Cargaleiro,
Fogueteiro, E. S. De Azambuja, Azambuja and E. B. D. Sancho I, Pontével,
Cartaxo. One paper is in production.
EQUIPMENT AND INFRASTRUCTURE
• Two heavy calculation servers used for support and hosted projects;
• Three servers dedicated to hosting research databases and web resources;
• Seven workstations of which two have analysis software for user access;
• Four redundant backup servers.
