b. Signals Used With Helicopter Operations. Explanations and diagrams<br />

of standard arm-and-hand signals used during helicopter operations<br />

are given in figure 3-14.<br />

I. TO PREPARE FOR HELICOPTER GUIDANCE. Extend arms above the<br />

head, palms facing inboard.<br />

2. TO DIREcT THE HELICOPTER FORWARD. Extend the arms and hands<br />

above the head, palms facing away from the helicopter. Move the hands<br />

in such a motion as to simulate a pulling motion.<br />

3. TO DIRECT THE HELICOPTER BACKWARD. Extend the arms and<br />

hands, palms to the waist, facing the helicopter. Move the hands to simulate<br />

a pushing motion.<br />

4. TO DIRECT THE HELICOPTER TO EITHER SIDE. Extend one arm<br />

horizontally sideways in direction of movement and swing other arm over<br />

the head in the same direction.<br />

5. TO DIRECT THE HELICOPTER TO LAND. Cross and extend arms downward<br />

in front of the body.<br />

6. TO DIRECT THE HELICOPTER TO TAKE OFF. Circular motion of right<br />

hand overhead, ending in a throwing motion toward the direction of takeoff.
