Technique of Fire<br />

Section I. Introduction<br />

2101. General<br />

When squad members have completed individual marksmanship training,<br />

and before they commence combat firing in tactical problems, they must learn<br />

the techniques of rifle, automatic rifle, and grenade launcher fire. Technique<br />

of fire refers to the application and control of the combined fire of a fire<br />

unit. A fire unit is a group of men whose combined fire is under the direct<br />

and effective control of a leader. The fire units discussed in this manual are<br />

the <strong>Marine</strong> rifle squad and its fire teams.<br />

2102. Training<br />

The steps in technique of fire training and the sequence in which they are<br />

given are listed below. Detailed information can be found in FMFM 0-8,<br />

Basic Marksmanship, (under development) and FMFM 1 -3A, Field Firing<br />

Techniques, (to be superseded by FMFM 0-9).<br />

b. Field firing positions.<br />

C. Range estimation.<br />

d. <strong>Rifle</strong> and automatic rifle fire and its effect.<br />

e. Grenade launcher fire and its effect.<br />

f. Fire commands.<br />
