g. Principal Direction of Fire. A principaldirection of fire is a specific
direction within the sector of fire given to a flat-trajectory weapon and which
is designated as its primary fire mission. Within arifle squad, a principal
direction of fire is assigned to automatic rifles. Units are not assigned principal
directions of fire. Riflemen may be assigned principal directions of
fire for periods of reduced visibility. Squad leaders and fire team leaders
are not assigned a principal direction of fire, nor can an automatic rifle
be assigned more than one principal direction of fire. The principal direction
of fire is indicated by pointing out a readily identifiable terrain feature.
