g. Principal Direction of Fire. A principaldirection of fire is a specific<br />

direction within the sector of fire given to a flat-trajectory weapon and which<br />

is designated as its primary fire mission. Within arifle squad, a principal<br />

direction of fire is assigned to automatic rifles. Units are not assigned principal<br />

directions of fire. <strong>Rifle</strong>men may be assigned principal directions of<br />

fire for periods of reduced visibility. <strong>Squad</strong> leaders and fire team leaders<br />

are not assigned a principal direction of fire, nor can an automatic rifle<br />

be assigned more than one principal direction of fire. The principal direction<br />

of fire is indicated by pointing out a readily identifiable terrain feature.<br />
