8205. Plan Use of Time<br />

In order for the patrol leader to properly use the time allotted to him from<br />

receipt of the platoon commander's order until departure from friendly lines,<br />

he prepares a schedule which includes every event which must be done prior<br />

to departing friendly lines. In preparing the schedule, the patrol leader works<br />

backwards from the time of departure of friendly lines to the present. Some<br />

of the key events he knows must be done are rehearsals (day and night),<br />

issuing the patrol order to the patrol, inspecting the patrol, and, if the situation<br />

permits, making a reconnaissance of the patrol routes and the objective.<br />

An example of a patrol leader's schedule could be as follows:<br />

0230- - Return to friendly lines/area.<br />

2400-0230 - Movement to friendly lines/area.<br />

23 30-2400 - Accomplish mission and reorganize.<br />

2230-2330 - Recon objective area.<br />

2000-2230 - Movement to objective rally point.<br />

2000- - Depart friendly lines/area.<br />

1945-2000 - Movement to departure point.<br />

1930-1945 - Final inspection.<br />

1845-1930 - Night rehearsals.<br />

1800-1845 - Day rehearsals.<br />

1745-1800 - Inspection.<br />

1700-1745 - Chow.<br />

1630-1700 - Issue patrol order.<br />

1530-1630 - Complete detailed plans.<br />

1430-1530 - Make reconnaissance.<br />

1330-1415 - Preliminary planning.<br />

- Coordinate.<br />

- Issue warning order.<br />

- Select personnel, weapons, equipment.<br />

- Organize the patrol.<br />

- Study terrain and situation.<br />

- Plan use of time.<br />

- Study the mission.<br />

-1330 - Receive platoon commander's order.<br />
