(3) Execution. (It is here where the commander makes his intent clear.)
(a) Concept of Operation. "We will cross the line of departure in a
squad line, fire teams in wedge and attack the objective frontally, guiding
on that trail up the left of the finger. Fire teams go to skirmishers
at the assault position."
(b) Subordinate Missions. "Cpl Jones, I want your team on the left
side of the line. You will be the base fire team for the attack. Guide
on that trail going up the finger. Watch for the 2d squad on your left.
Take the left one third of the finger from the red dirt slash on the left
to the trail on the right."
"Cpl Brown, your team will be in the center; take the middle third of
the knob from the trail on the left to the narrow path on the right."
"Cpl Smith, your fire team will be on the right. Watch for the 1st platoon
on your right. Take the right half of the knob, from the narrow
path to the tree line."
"SMAW team, general support. Follow in trace of Cpl Brown's fire
team by about 50 meters. Engage targets of opportunity during our
movement. Consolidate on the objective with Cpl Brown's team upon
completion of the assault."
(c) Coordinating Instructions. "Line of departure is that line of thick
low bushes. Direction of attack is north. The tentative assault position
will be the depression approximately 50 meters short of the objective."
(4) Administrative and Logistics. "Cpl Jones, send two men to the platoon
sergeant to draw 14 frag hand grenades. Each fire team will get four.
I will carry the other two. A corpsman will be directly to our rear. Rations
and ammo will be issued on the objective. Evacuate casualties and
prisoners of war to the immediate rear."
(5) Command and Signal
(a) Communication and Special Signal Instructions. "The redsmoke
grenades will be used by the platoon commander to signal supporting
fires to lift."
