Editor's note
Hello, Bonjour, Ola, Ciao! I hope you're well wherever you are, welcome to
our crazy creative world.
November is so on fleek! Woahh let's pause for a moment, "on fleek" what is
that? I mean "reem" I could handle, "selfies" is pushing it, but surely a simple
cool or nice is better than on fleeek. So, the northern hemisphere is
preparing to wrap up in cosy blankets with a hot cup of cocoa whilst the
southern enters a scorching summer. This means warmer tones overall in
the music scene and a deeper party atmosphere. We welcome new writers
Steve and Emran to the team as well as a few reps getting out to hottest
events for us. We also celebrate Sarah's first year at Audiation Magazine!
Inside AM019: Sarah's Thoughts looks back at her incredible year of meeting
the stars and climbing in her career. Emran discusses the feelings we gain
from sounds. We chat to Natalie INDYA West and Sunny Andrea on their
upcoming single which has a touch of bollywood influence. The top 10 UK
charts gets scrutinised. Rokuro checks out the history and developments of
the Tropical House genre. Alalila says Steve with his look at the Mauritian
industry and how it's now blooming. Global DJ and fashionista Mary Jane
discusses the industry in Ukraine. We cover the closing party of the
notorious LET club hosted by Secret Models Ltd with international DJ
Enrico Sangiuliano. We've also got your global festival guide and latest music
updates.
Flashback one year ago. I was still a teenager and interning at two
music venues in Chicago. I remember the day @AudiationMag followed
me on Twitter, I thought it was so cool. I thought the layout was very
complex, the writers were cultured and educated, and that it was
something fresh to the scene that I never thought about—an online
music magazine. However, I thought it was just going to be another
account that found me because I am a college student interesting in
working in the music business. I was so wrong.
About a day after they followed me, Mizz-Ruby, owner and co-founder
of Audiation, messaged me inquiring about my passion for the industry.
More messages were sent and she was inviting me onto the team. ME.
ONTO THIS TEAM. Let alone me, being the only one representing the
USA. One thing led to another and bam, here we are, one year later. MY
ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY ON THE AUDIATION TEAM! This article goes
as an appreciation note toward Audiation, Mizz-Ruby, the team and
everyone that subscribes/reads! You keep us going, and want to deliver
nothing but the best! So thank you, Audiation Magazine has changed my
life.
Thinking about the topic of a year ago, a lot has changed since then.
First, I’m typing this from my new Apple computer. That’s a step forward!
I used to be so scared of these machines, but now I see why everyone
considers them to be innovative and easier to use. Aside from computers,
I’ve been able to connect with many artists/managers/security/galore
in the industry, and it only keeps my dreams that much more alive. I’ve
been to more concerts than I can count, been able to interview bands/
artists I didn’t even think were possible to connect with, and I’ve gotten
to see Europe! (Well, that last part was for my studies, but it still
happened this past year). Above all, I don’t think I’ve ever appreciated
the feeling of coming home and relaxing in bed, as boring as it sounds, it
is nice to wind down from how crazy life can get!
I have been getting questions lately about this new opportunity, so I
thought I would address it here. About two months ago, I was hired
through CBS Radio as a Promotions Coordinator for Top 40 station in
Chicago This has been a dream come true. I used to listen to B96
growing up my whole life, so working in that office and with the on-air
personalities have been mind-blowing. Especially coming from my year
with WLUW, I’ve found a new appreciation for the art of broadcast media,
and how much it can connect listeners with music. Here’s some things
about B96 I’ve noticed thus far:
• I’ve met Nick Jonas, Becky G and the Silversun Pickups.
• One of the afternoon hosts, Justin Roman, also is in a group with DJ
Flipside who mixes at the 5:00PM hour (17:00 for all my non-American
time users) called the Jumpsmokers. Their remix of Demi Lovato’s “Cool
for the Summer” actually is track 14 on her new album! Congrats to them!
• A previous coordinator, whose position I guess I took, is DJMissMeg.
You HAVE to check out her Street Mixes on Soundcloud. Search her
user ‘missdjmeg,’ we play her music at every event!
Many more, but those are my top three. I just want to tell anyone out
there, do not give up on what you truly are passionate about. The clich
“don’t give up on your dreams” is too bland for me, if that were true I
would be starring on Disney Channel right now.
Follow what ignites that spark inside you, what makes you excited
when you see it on paper, what you see other people doing and you do
wish that you could have their job. Do what makes you happy, and
don’t stop chasing that fire. Who knows what you could be talking
about in a year…
Let me know your passions! Tweet at us @AudiationMag, or at my
personal @babygotbecker. Time goes on, don’t let it slip. Live nice, think
big, have fun.
London's Top Commercial Radio Station
The RAJAR figures are in! They define the radio world with detailed quarterly
statistics on each station's performance as well as listener behaviour. With the
rise of digital streaming and other sources to listen to music, there is always a
worry for radio keeping up with demands. However with the introduction of
DAB and further connections to the digital world, radio is still of importance
with this quarter 89% of the UK tuning in. Comparing this across a 5 year
period, there has been a gradual decrease, and the majority tuning into digital.
I find I use my radio apps & tune in player a lot more these days. The functions
to listen back is very important also. What does this mean for the pirate
stations? A lot have grabbed this chance to gain more listeners with having an
online website and ability to listen digitally. Although there are millions of
web radio's, the overall aim is still grounded to being the hottest station in
their locations.
Now how about London's commercials? The top two stations are very close,
but the winner is.. KISS FM UK!
Yes, our good friends at the Bauer-owned station are leading the way with
2,099M listeners. Trailing behind at 2nd place is Capital with 2,086M listeners.
Magic came 3rd with a marginally lower 1,711M listeners. In fact, 9 of the top
10 digital commercial stations are of Bauer's. Their management team state
that they have been driving a strong digital push, and this is certainly paying
off. I even spot it everyday from KISS FM UK's socials, they interact with their
audience in a fun way, and most importantly intergrate really well with
current topics and events.
Congratulations KISS!
Music Brings Hope To Refugees
Al-Kamandjati music schools deserve a moment of praise in giving
youngsters in Lebanon an artistic form of enjoyment. The founder
himself had his life transformed through an opportunity to study music.
He takes this as his duty to assist others in gaining the same opportunity.
There is no question about the pain and suffering in these areas. The
injection of music aims to bring a little beauty, hope and peace to young
minds in a scary world.
Will Smith Returns To Music After A Decade
A favourite personality to many, not only does
he excude an enormous sense of joy in all he
does, Will is without a doubt very humble man.
We first met him as the fresh prince, he
released tracks including "Boom! Shake the
Room" and "Summertime", and of course more
notable roles such as in Men In Black.
"Fiesta" by Columbian dance act Bomba
Estéreo gets a remix with featuring rap vocals
from Will. The lyrics include English and
Spanish language. Will first heard the track in
Columbia and loved it's vibrancy so much that
he wanted to guest on it. One member of
Bomba Estéreo, Simón Mejia, was surprised to
learn Will's thoughts stating, "it's not a
traditional featuring -- it's just magic".
Music For Cats
Is there anything that cats don't have? The feline
addiction has stepped up to a new level with audio sounds
designed specifically for cats.
A member of the National Symphony Orchestra has
teamed up with animal scientists to create a new series of
sounds including squeaks and whirs which tunes into cats'
brains and ear waves. A cat develops different hearing
senses to us, and owners who simply turn on the radio
aren't doing much for them.
Some of the tracks in the series include bird chirps, and
suckling sounds in order to be relaxing.
Can We Reunite Artful & Craig David?
“7 Days”, “Fill Me In” and the notorious boink of “Rewind”! Craig David peaked
in the early noughties with his smooth charm on a sexy UK Garage style.
The artist has been flung back into the media attention with the recent BBC
1xtra session with Mistajam’s #SixtyMinutes. The show was epic, and I do not
use that word often! The Kurupt FM lads featured as well as Shola Ama, MC
Vapour, Craig David and more. And wow Craig absolutely smashed it. He
revealed two new tracks “Better Off Alone” and “Off My Mind”, as well as a
new twist on “Fill Me In” dropping it into Diplo & Skrillex’s “Where Are You
Now”.
Going back to “Rewind”, which was and still is one of the most well-known
UKG tracks ever. Still appealing to the crowd, just a few days ago when Artful
played it out, the audience eagerly sung with the Bo’ Selecta! This phrase even
inspired the Channel 4 series including a Craig David sketch.
In a previous chat with Artful, he mentioned, “Craig and I had no idea it was
gonna have the impact it did when we were working on it. It was important to
us to enjoy the process and make a track that had loads of hooks in it so we
literally threw everything at it and went for it in a big way.”
With Artful working to an impeccable manner still after all these years, and a
refreshed Craig David in the spotlight, we’d like to propose the two a
challenge. Just 1 day in the studio, forget the world and any logic – simply
have fun and vibe. We will be waiting eagerly to hear the results!
Deep motivated waves
What are the real feeling vibes in
music? Can anybody describe
emotions & feelings after listening
some trippy deep chill vibes? Of
course it is possible to ask this
question to an ordinary music
listener. Sounds of nature
motivating you to some reaction &
feelings. They could be positive &
negative. Rude & loud sounds
leading to negative mood, but some
people prefer metal & rock. What is
about chilled vibes? Can we
approve that everyone like chilled
tunes? Of course it is impossible.
Interesting fact in the music
industry: lounge, down tempo &
chilled compilations sell out pretty
good. What is the reason? Deep,
calm, motivated tunes dissolve
thoughts of human being & help to
concentrate on basic work. Maybe
that could be one of the main
reasons.
I want to talk about Visitacion music
record label of the deep abstract
ambient from Dallas USA. CEO of
Visitacion music is Dallas based
music producer & label owner
(Embarcadero records, Muni
records). Visitacion music releases
music from the owner himself by
different aliases. Here is the list of
marketing aliases of Donald Wilborn
releases: Donald Wilborn, Moroccan
Lover, Inner Sanctum, Emi Murai,
Castro Street Project, Jean Claude,
West Portal, 808 Lounge, Presidio
Kings, Seal Rocks, False Angel, Outer
Mission. Visitacion Music is
dedicated to deep, melodic and
emotive sounds. Ordinary listener
of EDM popular stuff will not
understand the emotive crossover
of Visitacion releases. Some music
artists suggest that Visitacion music
stuff is plain & monotone. It could
be plain & monotone for listeners of
pop music. These listeners should
try to listen to this kind of music in
headphones. I think they could
change their opinion if they will try
to feel the Visitacion vibes. Listening
does not mean feeling. Feeling the
mood of music composition &
composer is not available to all
listeners. Music composition
basically dedicating to a certain
period of life & listeners should feel
this mood. Music is universal
language contacting people all
around the world from all
continents.
Hello. Please present yourself.
My name is Andrew LaFleur, better
known as Atragun in the music
world. I am DJ and Producer from
the United States of America.
Your first meeting with music,
what kind of music was it?
My first meeting with music was
when I was about six years of age.
I was signed up for piano lessons.
I initially did not care for it, but after
gaining some skill, I became
obsessed with it. This then led to
my passion for classical music at
the time. I remember before
venturing into the electronic
world, wanting to be a classical
music composer and conductor.
How long have you been
producing records? What do you
prefer more DJing or producing?
I have been producing since 2008
in Logic (although I did experiment
with Garageband for a bit in 2006).
That is a very tough questions, it
depends on my mood and the
situation in my life. I guess
if I had to pick just one,
I’d pick producing as it
tends to be in a more
relaxed environment.
What is music to
you?
To me music is
something that is
truly beautiful. It is
something that
keeps many of us
going (myself
included) in life. It is a
concept that can
bring people
together in various
ways.
Your favorite
record of all the
time. Why is it
your favorite
record?
I honestly don’t
know if I could
answer this one
fully, as I have
MANY records that
20
www.AudiationMagazine.com

I hold in high regard. I guess if I had
to choose just one, I’d choose Daft
Punk - One More Time, as it was one
of the first electronic songs I ever
heard. I still listen to it to this day,
a truly timeless classic!
Your favorite artists of all the
time. Why do you love production
from this artist?
Again, so many I could name! If I
had to choose a few though, I’d
choose Daft Punk, Armin Van
Buuren, Akira Yamoaka, and Brian
Eno. I love their productions
because all of them had something
special that set them apart from
other artists.
How you see music in the future?
Which kind of electronic genre
leading in future?
It is very difficult to say at this point.
I am hoping to see Trance sort out
some of its problems and become
dominant again (I do see this slowly
happening as of now). Deep House
seems to be what is popular as of
now (which I have no problem).
Overall, I wouldn’t mind seeing
Electronic music in general go
underground again. I feel that
having it in the mainstream too long
has somewhat tainted it.
always changing! So we will have to
see where I am in the future! I can
assure you I will still be producing
and DJing though!
What can you tell to music
producers and DJs just beginning?
If you truly love music and DJing,
Stick with it. Fight for your dream. It
won’t happen overnight. Many of
the accomplishments I am
achieving at the moment are only
just happening as of now, and I’ve
been doing this for nearly a decade!
Thank you for attention Atragun to
our magazine! Good luck!
How you see yourself in music
business in the future?
I would like to one day start my own
record label. The music business is
Natalie INDYA West & Sunny
Andrea
We introduce Natalie INDYA West and
Sunny Andrea who have teamed up with
The Next Room productions to create
“Goddess”. This is the debut single for
actress and model, Sunny Andrea, who
has always had the desire to sing. The
lyrics are written by Natalia INDYA West,
who has developed in the industry with
her Indie band, INDYA. The Next Room
production team have worked some of
the best including Kimberly Wyatt,
Snoop Dogg, Alesha Dixon, Skepta and
more.
The upcoming single “Goddess” is a
beautiful blend between Indian style
and a deeper modern twist. Sweet,
sultry tones against the flavourful
rhythmic beat with dips into a darker,
and quite risqué nature.
In the lead up to the release, we grabbed
the opportunity to speak with the
goddesses themselves for Audiation
Magazine..
The track "Goddess" is a fusion of
Bollywood & Pop/Rock, what were the
initial ideas for the creation of the
track along with The Next Room
production team?
Sunny: The idea actually stemmed from
all our creative sides and I am of course
Indian, so we thought it would be a really
nice idea to produce a track that covered
the whole Bollywood/Indian sounds
and include my heritage in it. I also feel
that with the POP/R&B blend within the
track, its definitely got something to it
and something that is definitely missing
from the music industry right now. I am
in love with the track – it’s sexy, fun,
fresh & something hopefully people will
find quite catchy and enjoy listening to!
It’s not in any way a ‘diva’ type track, so
I am safe! But I can see it working well
and fitting into the mainstream markets
as well as British Asian markets.
Natalia: The Next Room produced the
music for the record and I have written
the lyrics. I named the record “Goddess”
as Sunny Andrea is from an Indian family
and she reminded me of an Indian
princess, as she’s so beautiful. So I
wanted to make the song magical, soft
and Bollywood designed especially for
her. I got together with The Next Room
to discuss and we all went away and did
our homework... and eventually came up
with this!
How did you all meet each other and
get to working together?
Sunny: Natalie and I have the same
manager/agent and so we were
introduced that way. I love modelling
and acting, but doing a track was always
something I had wanted to do and what
a perfect opportunity I was given when
I was informed about The Next Room and
Natalie Indya West.. It was an
opportunity for me that I couldn’t turn
down and I am just so excited and lucky
to be working with such a lovely yet
creative team! I love working on new
projects and this is something I can really
enjoy and get into and have fun with!
Natalie: I met Sunny as we are under the
same management (Zoie Wainwright)
Zoie initiated the meet with The Next
Room and myself. Sunny wanted a
record written for her, so they asked me.
Sunny, you grew up with an outgoing
personality wanting to perform
whenever you had the opportunity.
What is it about being in the spotlight
and showcasing your talent that you
love?
I think you either want this and you have
it in you, or you don’t. I used to be quite
shy when I was a lot younger but then
as I grew up, I opened up and really
wanted to do something within the
entertainment industry. For me, even
though I had studied and had training,
acting is a very natural thing as is
modelling and being in front of the
camera whenever I have the chance. I
just enjoy it, have fun with it and really
love working with creative teams of
people and producing a fab end result!
Singing is something I want to work on
but this track suits me perfectly! I am
always myself and I think it’s important
to never forget who you are and where
you have come from and the people who
have always been there for you. I enjoy
performances and playing different
characters and making people smile. It
also stretches my skillset and I am
forever learning. Showcasing talent is
always a great feeling.
Natalie, you and your mother are both
creative individuals, how did you get
into performing and music?
I studied music at the Brit school, and
then went onto Colin’s Performing Arts
in Essex...hence the eEsex accent!! I have
always been musical since the age of 4!!
I have always dreamed of being a singer/
songwriter. My mum loves music and
she brought us up on all the old bands
such as Rainbow and Deep Purple & Dire
Straits. She had great taste. I think this
inspired me to be a rocker n roller! lol
Sunny, this is your debut single! How
do you feel about the experience of
singing and hearing your voice on a
great track?
I am definitely nervous but at the same
time so excited! I know I have an amazing
team of support and people to coach and
help me along the way if I need it. But
no, definitely excited about this and it’s
something I wouldn’t have agreed to if
I knew I couldn’t do it. Hearing my voice
on the finished track will be a little
surreal but I will definitely be proud of
it, I have to be and want to be, so I just
hope and pray that everyone else likes
it as much as we do.
Natalie, you wrote the lyrics for
"Goddess", how do you find inspiration
when writing?
Yes I wrote the lyrics for “Goddess”. I
actually have to be on my own in my log
cabin and light all my candles, coffee,
redbull and my thesaurus. I use
brainstorms and link words etc.. I have
to have the right ambience in the room
to be able to focus.
Sunny, you have an Indian family
background and have brought this
influence into your sound. Which
vocalists do you admire the most?
22 www.AudiationMagazine.com

I have to say that I love many genres of
music and artistes out there. For me
personally though, my favourite genres
are Pop, R&B, I love my musicals and I
enjoy the 80s! Vocally, I am totally in
love with the likes of artistes such as
the greats Celine Dion, Whitney
Houston, Michael Jackson…And others
more recent like Westlife, Christina
Aguilera, Usher, The Saturdays, Ed
Sheeran and others. The industry has
many great artistes, with all varied vocal
ranges, but it’s nice to see everyone
working hard and going places! I also
give huge credit to the likes of Simon
Cowell and Louis Walsh for the talent
they spot and sign up. Those men know
their stuff!
Natalie, tell us about your upcoming
news.
I'm interviewing Chris Andre tomorrow
night!! Also I'm flying to tenerife as I am
being Interviewed Saturday on ocean
FM and it's the launch of Goddess! It will
hit the Canary Islands!
Sunny, you had a love of animals and
previously wanted to be a vet! If you
could be any animal, what would it be
and why?
Yes, I do love animals, mainly dogs! My
husband Danny and I have a beautiful
puggle- she is called Peggy! She is just
the best, such a cheeky but loving little
girl! I would love to be a black panther
or Jaguar or something, as they look
amazing, they have a gorgeous warm
coat as I am ALWAYS cold and they’re
fast – I love exploring so I could be like
Queen of the land and see the places I
want to see! They’re stunning animals!
Natalie, you've recently joined
Southstar radio with your own show
playing Indie & Rock. How do you feel
about experiencing radio and live
shows?
I feel really pleased and proud to be a
DJ on Southstar. I’ve been given a
fantastic opportunity to shine and I’m
loving it!! I love the music and talking to
people on the show, I love interacting
with listeners. I hope to get better as I
get more experienced and hopefully
still be around for when Southstar
become an FM station
You've both appeared on TV and have a
growing media & music presence, what
is the best advice you could give to
music and media enthusiasts wanting
to be successful in these career fields?
Sunny: Never ever give up! It’s such a
tough industry as everyone knows, and
I know that I am forever working hard to
get places and there are still so many
things I would love to do acting wise,
modelling and singing… But
determination is key, network, try and
get as much experience, even if it’s
unpaid at the start. Be nice to people and
just keep going!
23

24
Natalie: Never give up!! If you want
something bad then you will not stop
until you have it. Sheer determination
and drive is what takes you there. You
get haters, you have to ignore them and
push on. You also have to invest to get
anywhere. I’ve spent thousands on my
music making records. It doesn’t just
happen overnight.
What do you both get up to when
you're not working?
Sunny: I love spending time with my
husband and my mum and dad.. Just
being with family in general really. I love
catching up with my friends, going out,
shopping, heading to the cinema, going
on holidays when we can and just
enjoying life together.
Natalie: I go to the gym and swimming
a lot! I hang out with friends a lot too.
But to be honest I’m always working!!
What have you both got planned for
the future?
Sunny: I have secured a part in a 4 part
TV series called The Love of Ella. It’s
directed by the fabulous Simon Golding
and I play the part of Shelly Stevens. It’s
a great comedy storyline, with a fab cast
attached to it! Again, I am very excited
about this as I LOVE acting and I cannot
wait to get into rehearsals and start
filming towards the new year. I am a
HUGE soap fan, so for me, something
like Eastenders, Corrie or Holby City is
right up my street – the cast are fab and
I am seeing more and more Asians on
TV now, so I can only hope and pray they
see my work and call me. Haha! I would
love to work on any projects really that
people think I am suited for- so whether
this may be in Film, TV or Modelling or
even more Music?! I am ready for it!
Natalie: I hope to get bigger with the
band and succeed with the music and as
a DJ. I also want to work with other artists
on records. I would love to write for
Madonna!!
Having been released a few years ago with various remixes, this new Disco
House 2015 edit, as featured in Tiesto's Club Life 443 podcast, is by far the best
version. It has a fresh sound and attitude, yet still keeping the flavourful beats.
Who can say no to a brand new Disco House Mix of one of Manufactured
Superstar’s biggest chart hits together with Scarlett Quinn? We certainly love
this 2015 update of Take Me Over and we're sure you will too! So jump on that
dancefloor and get moving! Out now on Magik Muzik.
25

SCRUTINISING THE
1. Adele - Hello
Well this chart-topper isn't much of a suprise as
Adele's new release was highly anticipated and the
press have been going crazy over the single. Her voice
is great and she is a fav for Britain, one of the funniest
thoughts though is that her music will make you wish
you'd spoken to that randomer on the train you briefly
made eye contact with last month!
2. Justin Bieber - Sorry
Is it annoying that some of his songs are actually rather
catchy now. This track though is just typical and so
easy to come up with, the male wanting attitude, the
predictable pop sounds and rhythmic beat.
3. Drake - Hotline Bling
Breaking this one down it's just a simple tune and well,
is actually quite dull - let's face it, if this wasn't by
Drake, it would not be on the charts (although that
could be said about a lot of the chart tunes). The only
part I like is the climbing of his vocals in some parts.
4. Sam Smith - Writing's On The Wall
This is a mixed bag, the ranges and tones differ
throughout, which is why it makes a great track with a
lot of interest.
5. The Weeknd - The Hills
This one is really nice with a dark atmospheric tone
and hazy driving vocals - especially love the Eminem
version.
26
www.AudiationMagazine.com

THE CHARTS
6. KDA ft Tinie Tempah & Katy B - Turn The
Music Louder (Rumble)
As featured in the previous magazine edition, this is
one of our favs as is a lot of Katy B's catalogue. Fresh
sounds and contrasts along a fun track.
7. Justin Bieber - What Do You Mean
Another one for the Biebster, this I've heard so much
and is catchy enough that I actually like it a little..
8. Naughty Boy ft Beyonce & A Benjamin -
Runnin' (Lose It All)
Beyonce fans unite, this shows that she can really flow
with the times, although her best work is the older
material. The track is actually another dull one
breaking it down, but it's appealing to general listeners
and is alright.
9. One Direction - Perfect
Not feeling this, it's just an any-old modern boyband
track really - pretty forgettable.
10. Jamie Lawson - Wasn't Expecting That
It's quite nice to have something that isn't electronic in
the charts. Simple guitar and piano chords
accompanying a lovely male voice.
What track's are you enjoying at the moment?
Keys N Krates - Save Me feat. Katy B (Wuki Remix)
As featured on the UKF podcast #71 by Stanton Warriors. This edit by Wuki is
pretty gnarly when the drop kicks in, but I love the lead ups with the vocals and
bass progression.
Keys N Krates acclaimed single "Save Me" receives three remixes of epic
proportions from Wuki, Naderi, and STFU. Utilizing the sultry vocals of UK's Katy
B, each remixer crafts their own unique twist on the original in a futuristic fury
of genre-bending sounds. In a frenetic, dirty rework primed for the mainstage,
Wuki brilliantly intersperses Katy's dreamy voice with boisterous vocal chants
before unleashing a trap-infused drop. Naderi takes a more cinematic future
bass route, implementing rolling hi hats and dramatically pitched vocal tones.
Finally, STFU bulldozes the genre boundary with a trippy rendition filled with
funky basslines and a half-time drop that will have your jaw down to your
knees. Out now on Dim Mak Records.
The Rise Of Tropical House
With Winter fast approching us
in the UK, I thought I'd take us
back to the sunshine of Summer
2015. Tropical House went
mainstream with two of the
biggest Pop hits: Lost
Frequencies 'Are You with me'
getting to no 1 in the UK, Germany
and Spain. And 20 year-old Felix
Jaehn with his saxophone
infused remix of OMI's
'Cheerleader' Which became a
top ten in Over 20 different
countries.
Also With The likes of Kygo
breaking into the UK and
European Pop charts with hits
including 'Firestone' ft Conrad,
'Stole The Show', and more
recently teaming up with one of
the UK’s biggest female singers,
Ella Henderson with their
collaboration 'Here For You'.
Everyone by now has heard of
Tropical House even if they didn’t
know what it was called to begin
with. This 23 year-old classically
trained musician has clocked up
well over 200 million plays on
Soundcloud alone and has signed
a deal with Ultra and Sony
International, The rise of this
genre is best described as a mix
of Deep House, House and
Chillout to some people, it's fluffy
and has little edge. But to others
(including myself) it's a breath of
fresh air to clubbers and ravers
that are getting tired of the harder
EDM genres and need something
a little more soothing in their life
and are looking for a more
relaxing laidback slower sound to
chill out to.
Most People probably think of
Spring 2014 when Robin Shultz
remixed 'Waves' by Mr Probz. This
became probably the biggest
worldwide hit in that year and as
the first time they heard Tropical
House.
But the sound was pioneered by
Australian Producer & DJ Thomas
Jack who actually came up with
the name as a joke, It had been
bubbling under the surface for
29

a few years and now at the stage
of it being one of the biggest new
Dance scenes in recent times.
With Thomas Jack recently
announcing the first all Tropical
House Tour, these events will be
supported by other well known
and up-and-coming artists in the
scene including: Bag Raiders,
Bixel Boys, Felix Jaehn, SNBRN,
and many more. The tour kicks off
in the USA only at present with
the first dates being 20th & 21st
Nov 2015 in San Fransisco, Nov
22nd in San Diego, Nov 22nd &
27th in the Fonda Theatre - A
great venue that holds well over
a thousand people that I've been
lucky enough to headline as a DJ
some years back.. Complete with
roof terrace overlooking some of
LA downtown skyscrapers and
nightlife. Then onto Washington
Dc on 4th Dec before finishing on
5th Dec in New York City.
have broken into the UK Pop
charts over 2015 include
Bakermat, Klangkarussell and
Kingande. So with the likes of
Calvin Harris and Skrillex starting
to bring out tracks and remixes
with a Tropical vibe, I can only see
this sound getter bigger and
bigger in the very near future.
Especially with Justin Bieber's
Tropical Infused 'what Do You
Mean' having being produced by
Skrillex, it's only going to get
bigger.. Did I just mention Justin
Bieber?
And if you thought Tropical House
was just another fad genre made
by talentless kids in their
bedrooms with laptops, I urge you
to check out one of Kygo’s live
lounge performances.
MAURITIUS

Alalila. Mauritian expression meaning "Here it is". It is the start
of a new adventure and I would love to share some of our local
musical goodies. Even though we have our traditional Sega (part
of Unesco Mankind Heritage since 2014) which has evolved in
various forms, we have Mauritian artists performing other genres.
It is blooming on that side and the creations are of appreciable
standards. The only question mark is the future of the music
industry here. We are somehow lagging behind, but things are
starting to shape up and we hope that the way it is being steered
can prove right for all stakeholders of the industry. One proof of
Mauritian talent is Christophe Rey. Have a peek at his SoundCloud
with song "Better Make A Better Plan". It wraps up the actual
situation of the industry and sure, we need a better plan for the
Mauritian music as the formal way does not work. If not by
concerned authorities, we can drive the change by supporting
the artists at our ends.
International Dance music DJ and
fashion icon, Mary Jane is certainly one
to watch in the creative industry.
Originating from Ukraine, she is now
exploring the world with her Global
Sensation brand. One location that she
is particularly excited to be performing
soon is the beautiful island of Mauritius.
The event is hosted by Purple Agency
and Ciroc vodka, it is set to be a clubbing
sensation with local DJs, a live band and
a great atmosphere. With her career at
a high peak, we took the opportunity to
chat with Mary Jane..
How did you get into music and DJ'ing?
The beginning of my love for music was
born at 8 years old, I went to a music
school in the class of piano! At the age
of 13 years old, when my brother was
studying different music programs - I
was interested too ...
One day I was offered to try myself in
DJing and I decided to do it, at the same
time I met my manager and my journey
began.
What is the music industry like in
Ukraine and what does it offer to music
lovers?
There are very hard times for the music
industry in Ukraine. There are a lot of
good artists, but they are not in demand
here. There are a lot of people who know
the music industry and have good tastes
for it also, and people who attend many
festivals abroad! Due to the economic
and political situation and war In
Ukraine, there is no possibility for
development in this direction. Only Pop
music lives.
You will be DJ'ing in Mauritius on 7th
November, what are you expecting
from the island crowd?
I will come to Mauritius for the first time!
I've heard a lot about the local culture
and friendship. I hope to find a lot of fans
of my music and just to make people
happy... But the most important things:
I wish they sing with me, dance with me
and fall in my sound with a happy mood
every minute of my performance.
You have a fun and striking fashion
style, where are your favourite
places to shop and find inspiration?
All girls like shopping! Bumble Bee are
doing good with a lot of clothes brands,
also really nice caps from Upfront
company. My exlusive brand called MJ
Exclusive is coming soon with very nice
designs for girls. I like to combine styles!
By the way I'm very beautiful in any
clothes: Gucci, Zara, Karen Miller,
Gabbana... for me all clothes are good
if I like to see it with me in the mirror,
but I really like shopping.
As for my inspiration - sea and the ocean
are my favorite places, where you can
hear the sound of water.
Who are your music inspirations?
Tiesto, John Dish, Fedde le Grand, Armin
van Buuren, Benny Benassi and many
more...
What does it take to be a big
international DJ?
- to work hard and to look for their own
style,
- to love the music and do not give up in
case of failure,
- to love trips and to sleep a little :)
Saturday 24th October,
Grand Baie, Mauritius played
host to international Techno DJ
Enrico Sanguiliano as well as others.
This being hosted by Secret Models
Ltd and the closing party for club
venue Les Enfants Terribles. The
venue has been a prominent
location for some of the biggest club
nights for the island. Although this
is a sad moment, it makes way for
the launch of a brand new venue of
which will comprise of a bar,
resteraunt and club.
The event was a huge success,
exceeding LET's capacity and
closing at 10am! We sent along our
reps for the night who had a "blast"!
Many thanks go to Shahir and Awad.
Never thought Mauritian people
have enjoyed Techno that much.
So many people and amazing
music! Great DJ, great night. Music
was still playing in my head the
following day!
Enrico Sanguiliano
Tell us a bit about yourself, your
background and how you got into
music.
I was really young, I started playing
on my desk while studying at school.
Then my desk became drumkit.. Then
I discovered that with computers, I
could create something new,
different from reality. And then I
started making noise with big PCs.
After 10 years
38 www.AudiationMagazine.com

dropping my music into rave
parties, I thought okay let's send
this to some labels, and then it
started. So I played, in the last 10
years, the biggest parties in Italy
and then I started to move accross
Europe and beyond.
What did you think of the event
tonight and the Mauritian crowd?
Really responsive crowd, I see
really powerful reaction and great
minds.
What can we expect to see from
you in the future?
Regarding dates , i'm going to
Australia next week and i'm going
to Slovenia, Bulgaria and then Italy
- I'm Italian but I have to say Italy!
I'm playing accross Europe, It's
good because it means that people
are reacting in a good way,
Pratyush, Secret Models
This is the first underground
event in Mauritius with Secret
Models, what were the initial
ideas and how do you think it’s
going?
Initally I was tagged as a commercial
promoter, the last couple of shows
that are commercial with a basic
genre of music I wanted to do. But
there was a certain situation that
pushed me to say let's try to do
underground. I think it's like 5 in the
morning and
we still have people
around. For the first
underground party on
the 24th of the month,
I think it's a huge
success for me.
What do you have
planned for the
future?
For the moment, I'm
taking a break for two
months and I really
want to resharpen my
energy but I'm coming
back in January with a
really really really big
one. This guy is actually
the childhood dream
of a lot of promoters.
I've already signed him
and I'm not going to say
anything more!
