The 50 United States are divided into four primary regions; the Pacific Region, the Gulf Coast, the Northeast, and the
Mid-West as illustrated in Figure 2.1.3-1. For 2013, DAN referral chambers within these regions reported a total number
of 327 divers receiving treatment for decompression illness (DCI). It is important to note that this shows where the treatment
was conducted, but not necessarily where the injury occurred.
