The GST is a national tax that is on most things except for food. However, GST is on some food items like junk food (chips, ice cream, popsicles, pretzels, etc.). GST is 5%. When figuring out GST we must convert the 5% into a decimal .05 (move the decimal point 2 places). Example: Cory paid $1200 for a cooking stove. Problem: How much did he pay in GST? How much did he pay all together? Solution: Step 1: Multiply $1200 x .05 = $60 Cory paid $60 in GST. Step 2: Add $1200 + $60 = $1260 Cory paid $1260 altogether. Part 1: Calculate the GST for each of the following. 1. Dan bought a fridge for $1350. 2. Betty bought a dishwasher for $590. 3. Max purchased a gas range for $889 and a dishwasher for $549 4.
