Adding, reading and filling in charts<br />
The NWT Food Guide tells us to eat a variety of foods from different food groups<br />
every day for health. There are four food groups.<br />
Milk and Milk Substitutes<br />
Children up to 11 years: 2-3 servings<br />
Adolescents: 3-4 servings<br />
Adults: 2 servings<br />
Example Servings<br />
• 1 cup of milk<br />
• ¾ cup of yogurt<br />
• 1 piece of cheese<br />
• Fish head or bones<br />
Bannock, Bread and Cereal<br />
5-12 servings per day<br />
Example Servings<br />
• 1 slice of whole wheat bread<br />
• ½ cup of cooked macaroni<br />
• ½ cup of oatmeal<br />
• 1 piece of bannock<br />

Meat, Fish, Birds and Eggs<br />
2-3 servings per day<br />

• 2-3 ounces of caribou, duck or<br />
char<br />
• 1-2 ounces of dried fish or meat<br />

• 4 tablespoons of peanut butter<br />
Fruit and Vegetables<br />
5-10 servings per day<br />
Example Servings<br />
• ½ cup of cranberries<br />
• 1 apple<br />
• 1 orange<br />
• 1 potato<br />
• ½ cup of juice<br />
